Vine Street Cafe
Great food, best duck i have ever had. Pricey but worth it. Service was a bit scattered and it was hard locate our server at times long after water and plates had been finished. The manager Chris sent us a great dessert and was wonderful to meet! We will be back. Thank you! Jeremy Romine
Bad slow service
We love dining outside. Delicious food, wonderful ambience and excellent service makes this a favorite choice. The tuna tartar and The Salmon entree are our favorites. What a surprise to find chocolate chip mint ice cream in the profiteroles!
A definite MUST or us in Shelter Island.
As long as they are very rich an happen to be on Shelter Island.
It’s always a special evening at Vine St.; excellent table and ambiance, expert bartender and superb meal. Service was very good however it feels like the resto needs 1-2 more servers on-staff. Everyone is racing-around covering their tables but staffing seems light for the Summer.
We went here on vacation. Large group-10 adults and 2 kids. The food was very good-I enjoyed it. However, it is definitely overpriced (even for Shelter Island-bought the same bottle of wine I ordered out 3 nights ago and it was $18 more expensive here). The service was slow, but it was my first time here, so I know you can’t necessarily judge it by that. Overall, I liked what I had and I would try it again.
Enjoyed dining . Food delicious. Look forward to our next dining experience there
Wonderful dinner and evening, as usual.
Delicious food Great wine selections
Warm and welcoming atmosphere
Friends of ours met us on shelter island for a Sunday evening.
The restaurant was clearly overbooked. We waited over 20 minutes to be seated and 40 minutes for our entrees. We had the tuna tartare and market salad to start and the scallops for our main course. The food was average at best. Our waitress was excellent, apologizing more than once for the delay, explaining that the kitchen was backed up. We asked to see the manager who echoed her claiming that everyone arrived at the same time and that the kitchen was overwhelmed. After speaking to the manager, we appreciated that he took 50% off our check.
Fabulous meal, good service, pleasant place!
I’ve been to Vine St Cafe many times over the last 5+ years and have always enjoyed great food and a great experience. This past Saturday was quite disappointing. It took more than 45 minutes to receive our entrees. Clearly there was an issue with an overburdened kitchen as the food not only arrived slowly but was not well prepared. Calamari salad - which in the past was great - had rubbery calamari which had likely been sitting for a while. The pasta entree tasted like it was made in a big pot cafeteria style and then doled out in a bowl (and $33!). I understand the need to be financially successful but the product suffers when it is overcrowded.
By the way - I will give it another try but not on a weekend!
Loved everything about this restaurant. Food was excellent. A little pricey, but worth it. Staff was amazing too. Very attentive and helpful with any questions. Will definitely go back next trip to Shelter Island.
Fabulous food and exceptional service.
Service is excellent, food choices and execution very good. Delicious bread. Wine a bit pricey without much choice in the more reasonable price point. Noise level can get high. Overall, great experience.
We have been coming for years. Eating outside was lovely. Food terrific .
A pleasure to dive there
WE HAVE BEEN COMING TO SHELTER ISLAND BY BOAT FOR YEARS AND WE JUST DISCOVERED VINE STREET CAFE. WE ANCHOR IN COECLES HARBOR IT WORTH TAKING THE DINGHY TO COECLES HARBOR MARINA AND WALK FROM THERE TO VINE STREET CAFE. GREAT PLACE.
Amazing birthday celebration! Food and service was excellent! Thank you!
Love this place whenever we visit Shelter Island
I love Vine Street Cafe and everything about it, my reason for four stars instead of 5 was that it was simply too hot inside the restaurant, the AC Was not adequate and the ceiling duct work kept dripping on my husband.
Among the best food in the Hamptons. Charming ambiance in the seclusion of Shelter Island. Skirt Steak & Fries, scallops, are both winners. Killer Manhattan cocktail.
Wait staff was very friendly and professional.
Dined on a VERY busy Saturday night with temperature pushing high 90s. Only suggestion for improvement is the A/C and / or ducting should be adjusted.
Seafood Fra Diavlo was undercooked. The muscles, clams and scallops were all fishy tasting. Terrible. I sent the meal back and instead ordered the filet mignon which was cooked perfectly and was delicious. However, I had to wait an additional few minutes for the side of fries to arrive. My wife had the grilled lamb chops which initially were over cooked. She reordered them and they were cooked perfectly. Her sweet potato mash was thick and bland. The sautéed kale was too spicy. All in all I was underwhelmed with Vine Street. For the high prices paid, i expect only the best and do not expect to need to reorder. I will not be back. I strongly advise the chef to make sure he samples all the seafood that comes into the restaurant. It’s not enough to assume that your supplier no matter how reputable wil consistently deliver fresh seafood. As they say, trust but verify! Thank you to the owner for applying a discount to our meal to compensate for the inconvenience. That was greatly appreciated. Service was very good and attentive. Our waitress was accommodating and polite.
Great food, great service, and recognition of my wife’s birthday, which I checked off on my Opentable reservation.
I would go for the bread alone. Everything you order, whether appetizer, entree, or cocktail, is perfectly done. It's expensive. Very expensive. It's a treat worth the money.
Service and food was out of this world
Reliably good food. Service was a little slow compared to other visits to Vine Street. Prices creeping up towards special occasion visit level.
We were seated at a table overlooking the back parking lot and empty cans of some sort. The salad and ice cream were very good. My mussels were plentiful but I couldn't really discern the seasoning basil saffron flavor that they were supposed to be. My husband's sworfish was fine, but on the small side. We would still recommend to others
As always, a wonderful dining experience!! The early bird special is always a great option and offers many excellent choices.
Love to BYOB of my favorite wine for just a nominal corking fee.
Danielle is our favorite server and we request her each time we dine at Vine Street!
Wishing Vine Street many more years of success!!!
Excellent as always have been many times and never disappointed!
Always a great experience. Good food, service and ambiance.
Vine street is a reliably first rate restaurant.
Everyone agrees they have the best salmon anywhere
Fabulous food, atmosphere and service-always a pleasure
Truly enjoyed our first dining experience on Shelter island, looking forward to our next visit.
Everything was wonderful!
Great as always but their bus service especially is very subpar Left slop on table didnt clear plates Served while app plates still in front of us basically clueless summer help
The food is spectacular. The setting is wonderful. One of my favorite restaurants. The pricing is starting to really get high though. The drink prices are through the roof and nothing really special about them. Still love the place but watch your drinks!
Been at Vine Street Cafe many times. Always great food and service. We typically go there on a weekday but this was the July 4th weekend, it was packed with a line out the door and the noise level was unbelievable.
Great food, service a bit spotty. They were able to accommodate us an hour before the reservation which was miraculous. The calamari salad, duck terrine, skirt stake and tuna tartar were fantastic. In all it remains a Shelter Island classic and I highly recommend it.
