Viva La Mexicana
Another great evening, many thanks!
Thoroughly recommend this restaurant - the food is always amazing and as authentic Mex-Mex as you're ever going to get ioutside of Mexico! The enchiladas are to die for and I have yet to find anything on the menu that I haven't liked! Will definitely be visiting again.
Incredibly slow and disinterested service apart from some tables containing friends
Not authentic food and certainly not Mexican style hospitality
We were looking for somewhere interesting to have a late evening meal and this was one of the few places to serve late. It's probably therefore unfair to suggest there was not much atmosphere because it was way past most peoples eating time and so was empty. However it was a nice place and the food was proper Mexican
Amazing food, great margaritas and a wonderful atmosphere. We've been here several times now and have yet to find anything in the menu we haven't liked!
The food did not have much flavour. The coffee was not very good. All in all not good. Poor service only part of the table cleared. Would not go back.
While it was obviously a quiet night of the week, there were still a good dozen people in this small place and the food was unique (in the good way) and incredibly tasty. Not as spicy hot as I was expecting, but that was remedied with some extra chipotle.
Proper Mexican food (not Tex-Mex!) with a lovely family feel.
Another amazing evening at this place - food was great, atmosphere was super and staff very attentive and friendly.
We've been to this restaurant a couple of times now and it has always been amazing - great food, good atmosphere - will hopefully make this a regular haunt!
I'm Mexican and I can safely say it's one of the best close to home cooked meals I've had. Menu isn't huge, and don't expect 'tex-mex' at all. Lovely little gem!
Really excellent food, so tasty! Great service too, and very quick to prepare the delicious food. Loved it and will be going back again soon.
Food was lovely and was not overpriced. Also the cocktails were under £6 which is good. Would definitely go again
authentic mexican cuisine in a lovely setting. wont be oing to las iguanas again after this!
Went with high hopes of finding a little gem of a resteraunt but was quite dissapointed. Staff were very friendly, genuine and polite but service was slow and the food wasn't groundbreaking. Far too much dried Italian herbs! Good value with the groupon deal but overall dissapointing.
I purchased a voucher through living social which the restaurant declined to let me use (there was nothing in the small print they just didn't want me to). This meant I had to purchase two whole new meals. The menu is confusing with options not very clear. It has a good page talking about the background of the food. The food itself is good but as we weren't sure what we were ordering (some confusion with the waitress) we ended up with an extra starter and probably wouldn't have chosen the main. I plan to go back and try and use the voucher I bought so should have better luck.
Starting with 2 for 1 cocktails which were rather strong. Can't complain. Nachos for a starter, ace. Good, flavourful mains. Chocolate torta to finish. Stuffed and happy.
The food was tasty and genuine , not made up dishes like many Mexican restaurants.
Delicious Nachos and awesome Margaritas! A real experience of Mex-Mex instead of the usual Tex-Mex. Highly recommended!
Lovely staff. Great and interesting food. Accommodating to my boyfriends food allrgies. Very good experience.
The restaurant and food was very nice. The restaurant is quite open about serving Mex-Mex food, instead of Tex-Mex, so there aren't fajitas, chilli con carnie and burritos, as these are all American rather than mexican. The food they do serve is really tasty, home made and there were lots of vegetarian and gluten free options.
They serve a variety of cocktails as well as beers/wine etc. We had a very nice evening, and found the staff very friendly and helpful.
The food seemed to be authentic Mexican, with many dishes that you wouldn't usually find in most Mexican restaurants in the UK, and tasted great. Staff was friendly too. However, unfortunately the food took long to come, and when it did, it came for 5 out of 7 of us, leaving the other two waiting another 15-ish minutes.
I went here with my mum with a groupon voucher. The value for money was amazing for the price paid for the deal. Their menu is very reasonable and they also have a specials board where they advertise deals.
The food was all freshly made to order and taste so good. The service was extremely good, the food came out fast especially considering the freshness. The waiter was friendly and professional.
I would highly recommend if you are a fan of original Mexican food.
We absolutely loved this place - a real taste sensation, a refreshing change from the normal stodgy Mexican food we get in this country. Simple decor and food, lovely staff, reasonably priced drinks and food. We will be back!
The only reason why I haven't scored it an excellent is because the coffee wasn't so good and the desert I requested was off the menu.
Poor food, not all served at the same time, mediocre service, I can't really think of anything positive to say about my night there.
Service was very slow and the staff spoke limited English so didn't understand our order; I ended up just communicating in Spanish - a bit of a problem if you don't speak Spanish. The food was really poor; I lived in Mexico and I never ate anything like the food we were served here. Save yourself the bother and find somewhere else to eat.
We ordered 3 lots of nachos to start, there wasn't much salsa on the chips and the 'cheese' looked like and tasted like the cheese you get at the cinema . The mains arrived quickly, the waiter didn't bother to take the starter dishes away with him. The enchiladas were really stodgy and unappetising, I left most of mine. We sat there for about 30 minutes waiting for someone to come back to take the dishes away, offer dessert etc. This did not happen, we called the waiter over-andasked for some water and this didn't arrive, we asked for the bill and water and it took an age!
In my opinion the food wasn't great and the service extremely poor. So all in all I was disappointed, especially as it was my birthday and my choice of restaurant.
This was certainly a Mexican Mexican food menu. Food was delicious and unusual, more choice might have been nice but what we had was lovely. Rustic decor, plastic table cloths etc but cheerfully and unashamedly welcoming. We enjoyed our meal and plan to go backwith the kids for the cheaper lunch deals which look nice.
don't expect Doritos and salsa here. genuine taste of Mexico and some very unusual flavours to be had. we found it very impressive all round
Authentic food and close enough to the Tobacco Factory for pre show eats.
My wife and I visited Viva La Mexicana for dinner and we had a lovely time. The staff are lovely & genuine and the ambience was further enhanced by a live singer who was good and not too loud. The food was great and had a very home cooked look and taste. My only recommendations for improvement would be the expansion of the menu choices, especially the vegetarian options. My wife is vegetarian and the only suitable dish was two eggs cracked into two small pancakes. Vegetarian quesadillas or enchiladas would be a great addition and would help us come more often . As it stands our visits would be limited to infrequent by the menu choice. A shame as we'd love to go more often and had a great time!
Nice relaxed atmosphere and interesting food that I'd never seen anywhere else- not your classic "tex-mex " and all the better for that
Not haute cuisine but good home cooked Mexican food, friendly and helpful staff. Perhaps a little over the top with the Tourist style Mexican hats and the decoration could do with a little sprucing up, but overall a good evening out and would be happy to go again.
Not the best Mexican I've eaten. Maybe its more authentic then we were used to, but it wasn't to our tastes. The cocktails were nice though.
The ambience is in keeping with the Mexican culture. We felt at ease and relaxed - that is how eating out should be. We will definitely come back when the weather is warmer and drier!
When walking in i thought i was walking into my lounge - it had a nice feel to it. We were served by a nice waiter but found our food took a while to arrive. The cocktails came out as just a long drink and nothing special or different. When the food did arrive it was definitely not what i expected. It had been microwaved or reheated to such a temperature it was dry. The fajitas i thought qere soft tortila wraps but these were crispy pancake rolls. Overall just very disappointing.
I love Mexican food so when groupon had a deal for here I had to snap it up. Initial thoughts were that the decor was authentic, good selection of food & staff were friendly. Unfortunately, they said they didn't have the ingredients for any of the more expensive dishes which seemed a bit strange & wondered if it was just because we were using a voucher. However the food was nice enough & would go back if we fancied a casual meal & were in the area but it wasn't a patch on Casa Mexicana which for me is the best Mexican in Bristol.
It was nice & the staff pleasant, & the food was good.
but i wouldnt go there again,
Parking was impossible, tables too small & too close together,
felt like we were on top of one another.
We had booked via their website through a Groupon offer. My partner and I are local so were very much looking forwards to the night. On arrival we were told that the offer was only applicable in January. The restaurant was cold, the staff behind the bar miserable. The only person with any cheer was our blonde waitress who was apologetic about the Issue with the voucher.
The food was below average, I had minced pork meat in corn wraps. There wasn't much flavor to speak of. We had a starter each and main each with one cocktail and two cokes. £46 I didn't think it was value for money at all. I won't be going back, even to use the voucher as the food was shocking.
went in, got served, all was good. No other customers in there when we went, yet the two of us had to wait a whole hour from ordering our food to getting it. I had to leave to feed the meter or the car would have been towed away. Such a shame as the ambience with mexican beatles music, etc was good. Unfortunately our smiles turned to frowns. By the time the food come out we were just plain bored of the place. Please, save yourself a lot of money and dissapointment, don't go
