Amazing food and very reasonably priced. Had to wait slightly too long for our starters but it didn't spoil our meal. Great wine selection too
Compact bistro in Clifton village with relaxed, friendly (but not over-friendly) service. Interesting menu choices, high standard of cooking and earthy flavours in my choices.
Lovely place, intimate, cosy and atmospheric. Food and service cannot be faulted.
Food and service absolutely fantastic as usual! One of my favourite restaurants in Bristol.
Service, food and setting were excellent......have recommended to friends and work colleagues already
Welcoming and smart. Good ambience and few people so we could talk. Music excellent choice, not too loud... with my hearing problem I usually have to ask for it to be reduced.
Food just magical presentation and portions perfect size: did not feel too full after 3 courses. Scrumptious pudding. NOT too salty and took notice of my request for no added salt AFTER we had been presented with salt all over the starter.
Went there on a Wednesday night, their BYO night, with a bottle of fine Burgundy, and had a truly wonderful meal: steak tartare to start with, very tasty, properly aged beef with a lovely raw egg yolk hiding away; then a terrific grouse, cooked pink to my idea of perfection, with a little dollop of deeply flavoursome black pudding, some kale, mushrooms and apples. With a bowl of their duck fat chips alongside, and these must be the best chips in the universe. Finally, as it was BYO night, the total bill was quite modest, at just over £60 for two. This may look like just a neighbourhood bistro but it is a really serious restaurant, one of the very best in Bristol.
This is our second visit to Wallfish and the menu is interesting and food very good quality. It I was living in Bristol I would make this a regular haunt.
We throughly enjoyed the meal and we hope to be back soon.
This was my second visit to Wallfish and while starters and deserts were good value within the price point we were there for the early evening sitting, the main fish course was oversalted and made my partner's meal inedible. Also door was left open resulting in a cold chill in the restaurant.
Second time we've been - our favourite restaurant.
A wonderful early evening meal for my birthday with husband and 6yr old daughter, the staff were very friendly and welcoming, the food was stunning, we would highly recommend Wallfish and would definite visit again next time we are in Bristol.
Really special seafood dishes on the menu - absolutely delicious! A great little restaurant, with great ambiance and good waiting staff.
We had eaten here before and been impressed with the food, so went back for an anniversary lunch. The food was as excellent as remembered and the service was friendly and quick. The set lunch menu was really good. The only down side was that the information online on the website was out of date, so the prices were higher than we had been expecting. However, the menu was still good and I would recommend Wallfish to anyone who enjoys their food.
The restaurant was pleasant and the hostess very friendly on arrival. The menu was varied with a good selection of wines and things we had not tried before. The food was superbly cooked and very fresh which was worth the wait.
We had a really lovely meal at Wallfish Bistro last week. The early evening set menu is incredibly good value, the wine list is good and the service is really friendly and efficient (though we didn't feel rushed at all). This might just be my new favourite Bristol restaurant and we'll definitely be back!
Our early evening meal was excellent: a plentiful choice of fresh fish and shellfish and well-hung beef. The service was attentive and helpful. I had an inventive starter: razor clams, duck egg and black pudding. I followed that with a tender and meaty fillet of hake, served with unvinegared cockles, clams and sa mphire. My dessert was a greengage and almond tart. The only downside was the volume of the over-privileged voices at the next table - not the fault of the restaurant!
We ate early on a Wednesday evening so were able to take advantage of the set menu (£16 for 3 courses) and to bring our own wine, making this a great value meal. The food was all delicious, served nicely but unpretentiously by pleasant staff.
Great food - the only downside was the slow service as we waited about an hour for our first course but that said we did receive a discounted from the bill as an apology. Will definitely be back.
The staff were friendly and attentive. We were downstairs which was cosy. My partner enjoyed her crab. My scallops were unfortunately a little overdone but overall the meal was nice.
Wonderful seafood prepared with knowledge and care. Friendly and attentive service.
We had a lovely Sunday morning breakfast. It was quite quiet but great service and well cooked.
Glorious seasonal food. The deep fried cockles seasoned with fennel, chilli and cumin were divine. The bread was delicious - as was the anchoiade which my husband enjoyed so much he asked for more . My scallops with pea purée was unctuous lay sweet and the turbot with bacon was one of the nicest things I have ever eaten . Frank loved the snails with marrow bone and girolles, but had eaten too much bread to fully appreciate his lamb dish. Wine was good and well priced and service very friendly
The food was fantastic, the early dinning menu was extremely good vaule. The staff were helpful and attentive.
Sheelagh and I really loved Wallfish ! The "Team" running this small cute special spot are just wonderful ! will visit whenever we are back in Bristol ! It's not fancy, just very comfortable, and really special meals coming out of one of the smallest kitchens around. real commitment to the craft ........
Very good dinner - as was a recent lunch. The only problem on a busy evening was the noise from the conversation in the room. My guest was deaf which did not help.
Lovely little bistro - the food was exceptional and the service friendly. Only thing I'd change was the music was slightly at odds with the atmosphere - a bit rocky rather than background for a lunchtime. Other than that it was all excellent! Thanks.
This place serves exceptional quality food (this time we ordered from the lunch special menu) which is also excellent value for money at £14 for 2 courses. To start we both chose the pork, duck and pistachio terrine with apple and toast which was delicious followed by mains of Hake with ham hock and peas the onglet with chips
The whole meal was faultless served with a lovely glass of tempranillo by a friendly "waiter"
Dined here on a visit to Bristol with my partner for our anniversary. Was a particularly busy night, and they were a little short staffed but the waiting staff did an excellent job under the pressure! Food was outstanding, octopus and mullet to start followed by lamb and turbot. Beautiful venue, fantastic food, a real treat and experience. Would definitely visit again, well done to all involved for their hard work.
We really enjoyed our meal at Wallfish - the oysters were sensational, a real highlight! However, we were a little disappointed to be seated downstairs while many of the tables upstairs seemed to remain empty. The mains were very nice, albeit a little rich, however the overall experience was charming and I would recommend it to others.
Third time I've eaten here. Perfect every time. Small, personal and the food is amazing.
The restaurant was fairly quiet so the service should have been better than it was. Everyone very friendly but the food took some time to come and not all of the main course was brought to the table at the same time.
Wallfish is an absolute gem. We had an early evening meal on a Wednesday night - so it was bring your own wine. It was brilliant value for money. We were lucky enough to sit upstairs where I think the ambiance was better - but wherever you sit, the food is superb!
Not sure where to start as the evening was a disaster. We waited an hour for our appetiser (an oyster), and hour and a half for our main courses. When we suggested that an apology would be nice for having waiting so long, we were asked to leave!
We booked this restaurant on a whim and it was a delight.
It's unpretentious, cool but dedicated to beautiful seafood.
Our terrine starter was full of flavour and well seasoned and the steack with tongue was lovely.
There was confusion in the kitchen as to what I orders so instead of getting a roast turbot with mushrooms, I was presented with a perfectly cooked piece of cod with bacon.
To make up for the glitch, the cheery staff gave us free desserts.
We would definitely return.
We had an incredible meal. The service was warm, friendly and very attentive. Great food in a great location. Would definitely go back again.
I have lived in Bristol over 30 years and this was one of the best meals I have had in this city, I will definately return, well done Wallfish
We decided to visit Wallfish due to great online reviews. The menu was different and gave us a chance to try things not normally seen on most menus. We had the crab as a main and it was exellant (and coming from Cromer that is saying something. We had 3 courses as we could not miss out on some great food
Waited 10 minutes for our prebooked table but given some free tasters, which was good.
50% of the desserts or ice creams were not available on this fresh daily menu ! There were no crackers/biscuits available for the cheese plate. Overall a good meal, well served but slightly marred by the lack of menu items. We will go again.
Beautiful food served simply tasting delicious. Lovely servers very friendly and polite.
