About
Nice quiet restaurant with comfortable ambience. The food is simply good, not extraordinary neither poor. The service was quite slow that night although they did offer the first course of the meal to apologise for the situation. The staff was very friendly.
Walters bar and grill was an attractive setting with good food and great service. We were having a meal prior to attending the theatre - it made for a special evening, celebrating a 70th birthday.
Disappointing. Wine not chilled. Waiter did not seem to understand white wine should be chilled. Food v average. No one else there. Very expensive for what it was. We should have eaten elsewhere. Which we did on the next night of our stay in Bristol when we ate 100% better meal and spent 50% less! Would not eat here again.😕
The staff very friendly. But food was slow to come. The cost of some meals was ridiculously high. Sea bass with only salad cost £18 and consisted of 2 small fillets. But overall meals tasted good. Would recommend to couples for a special occasion.
A delicious celebration meal in a beautifully decorated restaurant with attentive and friendly staff. A haven of cool on a very hot evening. Thank you.
The location within the excellent Bristol Royal Hotel is most impressive. The menu provided good variety and the food was very good.
As we arrived at hotel we had to walk through a plume of smoke as front steps were full of smokers then we were asked if we were guests which we weren't so seemed to be sat at back of Walters grill there was no magical atmosphere
I booked Walter's Bar and Grill through OpenTable on Friday for a special birthday dinner for my friend on Saturday night. I know it was last minute but I didn't think I would have trouble finding a restaurant with all that Bristol have to choose from. OpenTable showed that the first available table would be at 9pm. Fair enough with the last minute booking, so I went with it. When we showed up at 9pm the restaurant had 2 other tables still dining but the rest was completely empty and from the looks of it, had been for quite a while. I asked the person who was at the front desk why we had to wait until 9pm when the restaurant was empty. She said it had not been busy all night and did not know why we had to wait until 9pm for a table. The food was amazing and the wine lovely but the ambience was awful. By the time our mains came, we were the only ones in the restaurant, and it is a very large restaurant. How awful! What was supposed to be a fun night out was a bit awkward. I don't mind paying good money for good food but I felt very let down.
I saw the pre-theatre dinner deal on line and thought of giving it a go. What a pleasant surprise we had ! Excellent food - tender steak and cod to die for. Staff charming and attentive. Lemon tart and profiteroles both delicious. Well done.
we hadn't booked anywhere on a Friday night which was a bit of an oversight, and discovered that there was a table available at Walters. I was unaware that it was the in-house restaurant at the Marriot Hotel. This was a bit of a surprise! however we enjoyed cocktails before our dinner in the Cocktail bar and then moved next door for dinner. The restaurant was quite quiet however the service was friendly, attentive and non-intrusive. the menu was a nice selection of modern European food that was sensibly priced. the wine selection was more quality then quantity. the starters arrived relatively quickly and the mains about 5-10 minutes after the starters which was perfect. we ordered a variety of food and we all agreed that the standard was excellent. the bill was reasonable. all in all I will be coming back!
The booking process was easy, but I couldn't get a slot at the time we wanted (7pm), so we picked 6:45. However, when we arrived , the restaurant was empty, and was empty pretty much all night, so why couldn't we get 7pm? The decor was 'smart', but the music was all wrong - too poppy. The food was OK, but small portions and expensive. The 12% service charge was only paid because how no nice the staff were an for no other reason.
This is a hotel restaurant and our booking at 9.00, nothing available after 7.30 on Opentable, saw one other table occupied in a very large restaurant. Within 20 minutes we were lone diners. Service was superb, food good but no atmosphere. Menu has limited choice.
Stayed at the Royal Marriott for a theatre break in Bristol and was very pleasantly surprised by the restaurant. We were one of the first there for tea and had to wait for a while before someone came to seat us but from then on the service was excellent - friendly and quick but not obtrusive. The meal was lovely and v well presented - all in all would recommend.
I booked this restaurant for my husband's birthday. We have a 4 month old baby and the service that was provided to us was great. Friendly staff and food was brilliant.
Booked this restaurant knowing it was inside the Marriott Hotel but website gave impression it was a bar and grill and a restaurant in its own right. When it's actually the hotel's main restaurant for all of its guests!! Quite disappointed to be eating alongside residents just popping down for their dinner!!
Service good, food cooked well but overpriced as nothing special or 'wow'. Wouldn't revisit.
Fantastic staff service that's why we like it here, food abit pricey but service ways makes up for this.
We visited early Saturday evening, during the Bristol Harbour Festival. Although there was a wedding in the hotel, the restaurant was nearly empty.
Aperetifs took their time to get to the table after being ordered. Starters arrived in good time and were very good. There wasn't much wait for the main courses and these were excellent as well. I had asked for a glass of wine to be served with the main, but I was half way through by the time it was remembered by the staff. Desert was enjoyed, but coffee slow to follow.
Every course received "Is everything ok?" enquiries from at least three members of staff.
Food was lovely.
Service not so good.
I'm not going to rush back.
I was swayed by the value of the early evening menu.
Pleasantly surprised by the opulent surroundings & attentiveness from our waiter.
Prompt yet unhurried service.
The duck starter was plentiful & very tasty.
The steak main ticked every box.
The triple cooked chips were delicious & i'm afraid to say I was beaten by the mighty steak placed in front of me.
I would definitely recommend Walter's Bar & Grill especially on a Tuesday night where you can take full advantage of their steak night promotion.
The mixed grill was very good but the chicken dish really should be eaten by the chef before sending out more of this. A great concept - smoky chicken breast, cider jus, and a ham hash brown slice. The chicken didn't taste flavoursome, only the bitter aspect of 'charred' was detected, and the hash brown was extremely tasty, until I realised that this was because too much salt was in it, and after the third mouthful, couldn't eat any more. The ingredients and process may need to be readdressed.
Deserts are phenomenal here - can't recommend them enough.
Could but have asked for better service from all of the staff. My steak was cooked to perfection and my daughters burger was delicious! The service was impeccable, sadly I don't know the name of our waiters but all were smart and extremely efficient and very friendly indeed!
Just a little pricey £16 for a burger but it was a special weekend away for myself and my daughter so we didn't mind paying over the odds!
We were a family group of 8 senior who all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The environment was relaxing, the food was delicious and we would definitely be happy to return when we are visiting Bristol again.
We have eaten a la carte here before and the food was excellent however the Easter buffet was not well publicised and not busy and so the hot food was left out too long. Soup and desserts were excellent though.
We took friends here to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. The staff made the meal special from the champagne at the start to the candles and cakes at the end. The food was wonderful. We had a great night.
My sister and I had a verr nice dinner there. The place was quiet even if it was on a Asturday night. We both thought the food was excellent.
I would recommend the onion tart as strater, amazing!
