The Wandle is a lovely pub, polite staff, good atmosphere. We have just moved to the area and were really excited about trying the pubs food as we had heard great reviews but we were unable to try the food because my boyfriend has a nut allergy and they could not guarantee that any of the food would be nut free. I understand in a thai or indian restaurant but not in an English pub, there really should be some items on the menu that don't have nuts.
Made booking online. Called twice to confirm and only got answerphone. Left 2 messages asking to call me back and emailed 3 times. Nobody ever got back to me.
Turned up on the day and the pub had no booking for me. They organised a table for my group right underneath the tv screen on a day when there was lots of sport on and the pub was full of blokes drinking pints and watching football.
We got up and left and went somewhere decent across the road who were only too happy to accommodate us all and where we stayed for hours and spent about £1000 between us on food and drink. Won't be going back to this place. Totally inept.
Laid back atmosphere with good food, reasonably priced. It has a nice buzz and we would happily return!
Spent a nice Monday evening at the Wandle with a group of 7 friends. We sat outside. Nice to have the bbq outside and the smell was enough to persuade us to have a burger :-) Food was tasty, it's a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. Regular visitor, will return.
Booked. Latest time we could get was 7pm. I called to say we would be there st 7pm but might have a few drinks and eat a bit later- they said that was fine and the table was ours for the night. The day after received a call from the manager to say our 7pm would need to be given back at 8.15pm for the music, I explained our previous conversation with them and that we wanted to come for dinner and a few drinks. He did say he would keep a look out for another table and the conversation was left that I would talk to my partner and decide if 7pm dinner suited in the hope after that we would find a table or just have a few drinks at the bar.
Called back the next day to find out there was no booking at all anymore. Was advised that the manager would call after 6pm - received no correspondence and called 5times on the thurs night/ Friday night and Saturday afternoon with no response. We didn't know if we had a table at 7pm or not so didn't bother travelling over.
Been in the wandle many times and loved it and always found the staff very friendly -in this instance it was incredibly frustrating that I they didn't even respond or answer the phone. Hopefully I just had a bad experience but I would suggest calling to book as clearly they don't really seem to take bookings on here all that serious.
We went just after the pub had just been refurbished. The atmosphere was great and we had a lovely warm seat next to the fire. Because they had just reopened they were giving out free canapés which were delicious.
We booked the day before via the online service. When we arrived they said they hadn't received a booking and that there were no tables. This was all despite showing them that I had confirmation of the table booking and that the table was 100% confirmed. The bar man said that we should have rang as the online booking service doesn't really work! How about removing it from your website so you're not turning away a table of 6 that had booked?!
Disappointed that there was no recording of our booking with the Wandle, but thankfully there was a table we could grab.
Staff were lovely and place was nice. Quiz was good fun. My burger was a bit dry and chips too salty but my companion's chicken was very good apparently. I'd give them benefit of the doubt and try again
We went for lunch to watch the WImbledon Final - luckily we were given a table where we could see the screen on request .
By the time we got there though some of the food was already sold out from the BBQ and as they were so busy some of the food arrived colder then i would have liked.
Staff were lovely - proces were reasonable good day out, just feel The Wandle needs to be a little better prepared on busy days.
Never have I ever asked which table is mine (I had a booking) to be told I would have to wait to be told due to it being busy. In my eyes the bar man was out of his depth with his job and was rude to a paying customer! He then told me that I was early...well sorry that my table was for 7pm and I was there at 6:55! He was rude when we ordered our food and to be honest we were expecting the food order to be wrong due to his incompetence...but luckily it was correct and I must say although the bar staff (a girl was extremely rude from behind the bar. She clearly thinks herself to be better than everyone else) the food was amazing! It was a decent price and delicious!
We did book this a bit last minute for 10 adults and whilst the staff were very friendly they seemed very busy. The food when it came was very nice and drinks selections great. But we waited almost a full hour for our food to arrive which really put everyone in a bad mood, a shame really. Only comments on food are that the vege option was sweet potato wellington with roast vegetables which is essentially a plate of different potato so a little stodgy and the fish was very oily with the fish and chips. But all the meat eaters were happy!
The Wandle had fantastic atmosphere, everyone who works there is friendly and the manager did a very good job in accommodating my large party on such a busy night. I was very grateful to her! Owain who played the live music was brilliant as usual. The food was delicious and had a great selection. The platters are great, have one of each and share away!!
We had Sunday lunch with 4 adults and a child. Childs chicken was good, Adult Pork was lovely, But the veg was boiled to death and tasteless and the 3 remaining Beef dinners we had to ask for steak knives as outside was over done and inside was rare, beef on menu as medium.
Even after calling to confirm my booking on the morning out table for 6 for a friends birthday when we got there they couldn't find the booking! Found a table ourselves and asked if they could bring menus etc over and after 15 mins waiting we got up and borrowed them off another table. Let's just say service there is rubbish, food was ok, but the outside garden is lovely and the live music on a Saturday night was really good, perfect if you heading there for casual drinks just not if you want a nice planned meal.
I found the food lacked flavour... I had the roast chicken and the veg were limp, dull and boring. It was as if they had been boiled rather than roasted. They could have been made tastier by roasting them in a honey glaze or something to add a bit of flavour. The presentation of the roast wasn't great either. The burgers looked good and seemed to go down well but the rustic skin-on chips were so big it was like eating half a potato in one chip. There were a few mistakes with the orders too which resulted in some people waiting ages without any food and others having their starter and main course arrive at the same time. The atmosphere was great though, and made for a fun Sunday lunch with friends.
