Booked Warung Tujuh for our anniversary weekend on strength of Trip Advisor reviews. Chose an Indonesian restaurant as hadn't tried such natinality before. Sad to say restaurant is shutting down within the week. We chose a lamb and chicken dish which weren't actually very flavoursome and so really this was a disappointment. Saying this the staff were lovely and friendly and we felt sorry for them having to seek new jobs.
Great food, fantastic service! Happy to have found this great place in Brighton... Will be back for sure
Great little place, inconspicuous (almost hidden) at the southern end of The Lanes. Food was absolutely outstanding, and the "platter" gave a fantastic selection of different types of Indonesian cuisine with some delightful 'taste sensations'. The place itself was a bit cramped, and the wind seemed to blow in every time the door opened, but that shouldn't detract from an extremely nice meal in a very friendly, down-to-earth restaurant. Wouldn't hesitate to return, even though we live 90 miles away from Brighton!
First but not last visit! The waitress was very helpful explaining the different dishes of this new type of cuisine for me.
We ate here for no 'special occasion' but just to try it out because we had heard good things about it. We were NOT disappointed. Great, very tasty food - nice and spicy (if you like it 'hot' but not 'authentic' hot, don't come here - it will be too hot for you!!) and very good value for money. There were three of us eating and we all had something different, including a vegetarian option. I would come here again tomorrow (if I weren't already going somewhere else) and would strongly recommend it, with no hesitation at all. Thank you so much.
Food was very tasty, served quickly and good value.
My wife and I discovered this hidden jewel a couple of years ago. We have come back after a hiatus and still find the restaurant providing good food and ambiance for good value. Highly recommended!
Took my friend to this restaurant after reading good reviews, glad that I took the time as we may have easily passed the restaurant by as the exterior is a little shabby and tired looking. We had the set lunch menu which you could have for two or three courses at a comparable price to other restaurants in the area, we both had the sate which was tasty if a little on the small portion size, I had the Nasi Goreng and my friend the noodle version, both were authentic tasting and reminded me of the gorgeous food I had tasted when I visited bali, I was impressed that when my friend asked if her choice was very spicy the waiter said the spices could be adjusted to her tastes and she was very happy with her choice. The ambiance could be improved with more comfortable chairs annd a little more attention to the decor, we ate on the ground floor so the other floors may have been better. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely visit again.
Lovely restaurant didnt realise it was over 3 floors when first arrived so bigger than we thought. Very nice waiters, advised us on dishes really helpful.
Wonderful service! Francesca and her team really helped make dinner for the four of us enjoyable.
It's a very small restaurant, only four or five tables, and not particularly chic, but the food was excellent and the staff very attentive. All the dishes we ordered were of particularly high standard, there was really nothing to fault. The flavours were excellent, the vegetables that came with my dish were perfectly cooked with a little crunch but not too much, the curries were subtle and complex with the spices. If you like Indonesian food, we really recommend you go!
The sate platter was very tasty and we really enjoyed the seabream fillet dish. We also had the beef randang sharing platter: all components were great except the beef was a little dry.
Also we'd ordered a jug of pimms, which was fine, until the table next to us received an obviously much larger jug than ours.
Staff were friendly and the restaurant itself was quaint. Would still recommend to friends to try as it's very different cuisine to the standard ones you get in the area but undecided if we would go back.
What a wonderful little place! The staff are friendly and the food is a delight, especially if you're new to this cuisine. Well worth a visit.
We'd been there before and had enjoyed the food there and If anything, the service and food had improved since our previous visit. The food choice was good and the offer of help from the Waiting staff was much appreciated. The service was attentive without being overwhelming - a very neat trick to pull off . The quality of the food was excellent, especially considering the very reasonable prices. We're looking forward to going back there.
Very interesting food with a variety of delicious flavours served by helpful staff in pleasant surroundings. They make a special effort to be vegetarian friendly and were very welcoming to our group of friends. We would all like to go again to try a different selection.
Second time to the restaurant. Food was excellent, really tasty and good variety. We were a family of 4 children are 14 and 8. They loved their choices although would have been good to have some sort of heat rating. I would recommend having the larger portions of rice if having a 'soupy' dish even though they are billed as a meal on their own. I had Nasi goreng. Only drawback is the dining area which is very small (ground floor) and not very conducive to romantic dining if that's what you have planned. Real shame as in a different venue I'm sure it would be the talk of the town and one of Brightons jewels.
Was recommended Warung Tujuh by the B&B we were staying in and were glad we took the advice.
The tasting platters were lovely and a good way to try a few different dishes. The beef rendang was the star of the plate. Service was friendly and efficient and would certainly return when back in Brighton.
Amazing food with friendly service yet again. Reasonably priced with wine list to match.
I've been to Warung Tuju on two different occasions, once with my husband on a dreary Sunday evening and once for a business dinner with customers. Both times the food was very tasty and fresh and excellent value for money. The menu gives a lot of choice in different flavours and textures and was appreciated by all dinner guests I brought. The staff was so friendly and quick with service. The portions are generous and at the end of the meal the staff offered we could bring the rest of the food home. They carefully wrapped up the food for us.
I would definitely recommend this little hidden gem to other people.
This used to be one of my favourite restaurants in brighton. The food however is still superb but the service has become appalling. Slow service with staff we didn't recognise and we eat here frequently. The manager I think may have left and if that's the case we won't return as she was the reason why we returned. Had to ask after every course for cutlery, long delays on food. Didn't appreciate being called mate at least 15 times through our meal by the waiter. Such a shame as I really loved this little place
Delicious food, lovely laid back service, and very good value for money. Would definitely recommend
Despite my slight disappointment of increases prices, the food remains as good as ever. Definitely worth coming back
Am a regular, can't fault the place, always very good.
I went with my husband for his birthday, having been to this restaurant two times before. It was busy yet we had a great table by the window and wasn't disturbed by other diners. The service was as always friendly and mostly attentive. It is pretty laid back there in a positive way. The food was a tad dry which was a little disappointing but in fairness to them we ordered two very similar dishes and we had enjoyed a glass or two of wine before we arrived, so perhaps our taste buds weren't as finely tuned as they might have been. Overall? We'll be going back, but will be paying more attention to what we order!
delicious food and friendly service! Will definitely come back again and try all the other dishes.
Was recommended by my daughter. Went in on Sunday evening we had a taster plate each. OMG it was amazing! Fell in love with the food especially the beef so went back 2 days later to enjoy full portions of beef, lamb stew and more! And the cinnamon & ginger ice cream . . Heaven! We recommended a couple to try it and they loved it too! What a find! When we come back to Brighton we will defo go back!
I love Asian food so I was really excited to visit this place.
The food was delicious and the service good. We had the squid to start with Morning Glory which was excellent. Then we shared a platter all of which was tasty.
The ambience is ok, the lights are quite bright - maybe some candles and lower lighting would be better.
However, don't let this put you off it's well worth a visit!
We had a lovely time here on Friday evening, there were 18 of us so a big group to cater for. Our waiter & waitress were very friendly and never too far away without being imposing. Our food was really lovely and a few people who had never been before were very happy to have been introduced to this place and will be going back. Great veggie options and good value too. Would highly recommend.
I had a birthday meal here: just me and 20 close friends. Or was it 25? Or 27?
I originally booked for 20, but as the day got closer the numbers started creeping up. And then down. And then back up again. Francesca and her team managed to get us all in the same room, and were very patient with us as the numbers fluctuated on a minute-by-minute basis until we'd all arrived.
The food was absolutely excellent. Everyone left saying how much they'd enjoyed it, and that they'd definitely be coming back. I had one of their taster dishes, and it was very well cooked and extremely tasty.
The service was also very slick and friendly. We had our own team throughout the evening, and they certainly looked after us extremely well.
I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.
Really tasty authentic food, friendly service and good value for money. Recommend the tasting dishes so you can sample a bit of everything.
We loved the range of options on the menu and the exceptional quality of the food - so much we went back a second time, even though we were only in the neighbourhood for a few days. Very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended!
I booked this for a valentines evening. There was quite a wait for our food which we were fine with as we'd had a big lunch but some guests on the night were not as forgiving. We had the squid and chicken sates for starter which were yummy, followed by a couple of the curry dishes and noodles which were a little spicy for my partner but absolutely gorgeous. I would recommend this restaraunt. If you are after a glitzy establishment then probably not for you, but if you like good food in a relaxed environment then look no further.
I took my fiancée for a meal here last Friday evening and we had a really great time. The food was well priced and quickly prepared for us and was very tasty indeed. The service and ambiance was excellent and we had a great time there. Highly recommended!! We will certainly be returning in the near future.
They lost a start because our food was so long in arriving. This was because of a large party upstairs. The waitress was very friendly and apologetic, however. I have been recommended this restaurant by several people and now I know why! I will be going back.
Yet again, Franki and the staff at Warung Tujuh went all out to accommodate us in commemorating a friend's 30th birthday. We booked out a whole floor (great for large group bookings!!), and to our delight, we were greeted with balloons and tasteful table glitter decorations. The quality of service received was excellent (as usual), always attentive to our every need. For such a large party, the arrival of our appetisers and mains were orchestrated perfectly. Finally, facilitating the cutting of the birthday cake is another example of going above and beyond.
Hands down, we will be back here again - if you haven't tried WJ out yet, you are missing out!
Thank you to Francesca and the whole team that made my birthday so special. Loved the vegetarian options you chose for us and the spicy dipping sauce was fab! The meat/fish eaters also looked satisfied- apparently the prawns were wonderful!
We'll be sure to come back on our next visit to Brighton!
Location looked a bit tired and under par but the welcome we received made up for it. staff excellent, food brilliant, will definitely recommend to friends
A small restaurant on two floors. I have been here twice now in a year and both times I thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is delicious. Some dishes are quite spicy but the staff are great and approachable so I suggest asking for milder if this is your preference. Nothing pretentious. Just very tasty food at reasonable prices. A hidden gem in Brighton.
This restaurant is not on one of the main roads of brighton but IT should be! The food was amazing! very tasty and spicy which is how Indonesian food should be giving it an authentic taste. Was great value for money and the service was impeccable. The decor is not that great but if you want quality food over fancy lighting etc then this is your place! Will definitely go back there again!
Since London has few authentic Indonesian restaurants, and none at reasonable cost, we went to Brighton to test Warung Tujuh. Very glad we did as food very good and excellent service. The small ground floor and lack of elaborate decor might be off putting, but well worth the visit and we will go back. Good value for money.
