It was unfortunate that we had a senior staff member be rather disinterested and not very engaging which tarnished our overall experience. But the food was on the whole very good & we could see why it’s such a popular restaurant - it just wasn’t the best dining experience overall for us on this occasion.
A nice welcome, friendly helpful waiting staff
A very interesting imaginative menu-great food, great drinks, very good value for money
Definitely to be recommended
Lisa and her husband make an outstanding combination of food and service
The food was fantastic and such value for money. ...........will return
First class food and presentation. Very friendly staff. Interior decor a bit ‘ordinary’ which didn’t quite fit the outstanding food - did it matter ? Not really. Would definitely go again.
We came here two years ago and food is still delicious especially the home cured smoked mackerel!! Service was very good and good top class. Would recommend and will come again if I’m in Rye
First time here,we were staying in rye overnight from Canterbury, and I found the restaurant on line and had a fab right up and an amazing menu, and didn't disappoint, the service was fantastic, and so was the food I will definitely be going back and look forward to trying the other restaurants
Terrific! One of the best fish restaurants we have been to.
We have eaten here several times and have usually been 100% satisfied. On this occasion the lemon sole my husband ordered fell short of their usual standards in that it really was a starter size piece of fish and too small for a main course. He was very disappointed. I had monkfish and prawn curry and it was delicious.
The service is excellent and we would go back if we visited the area again.
Mussels were outstanding
A relaxed welcoming atmosphere; excellent food with a good selection of dishes first-class , friendly service-efficient without being in your face all the time.
If you like fish then this is THE plaice (pun intented) to go to. Good variety of starters and mains. All perfectly cooked. Staff are attentive without being over bearing. Lovely atmosphere. Always seems busy so you need to book early - took us 3 attempts to get a reservation, the first 2 times we left it too late and they were fully booked and it wasn't even peak season! Highly recommended, can't wait to go again.
Booked table for Tuesday evening .food excellent.service faultless
We eat at The Fish Cafe a lot and the food is always great but the latest meal I had of John Dory was the best yet.
We enjoyed our dinner at Webbe's at The Fish Cafe in Rye. The food and wine were excellent, as was the service and it was good value. However, the restaurant lacks atmosphere. It is cold and echoey and the colour scheme is very 'brown' and dated. I think it is time for makeover! That said, keep the food as it is. It is delicious!
It’s a real pity about our experience here as it had come highly recommended by a bed and breakfast owner in the centre of town. My husband chose the fish and chips and I chose the lemon sole. We had a single glass of wine each. It became clear quite quickly that my husband wasn’t enjoying his meal and I could see why. The chips. Surely if you’re having fish and chips the chips have to be good. These were pale and bendy. We were trying to have a great evening because we had viewed some properties and are moving to the area. When I questioned him he said that the fish was dry and the chips terrible. My lemon sole was simply too oily and after a few mouthfuls I realised that I was not going to be able to eat it. I get that sometimes a meal goes wrong and that meals are subject to taste, mood, hunger etc but what completely annoyed me was the lack of service. No one came to ask if we were enjoying the meal. And then, to add insult to injury a waiter scooted in and took our more or less full plates without even stopping to enquire why we hadn’t eaten our food. I summoned a waitress and she offered to wipe the 2 glasses of wine off the bill. We weren’t in the mood for argument as we were trying to enjoy the town we were planning to move to. In honesty, I regret not standing our ground and paying for food we didn’t eat. I tried to express our disappointment and it was ignored. I am anxious to hear your feedback.
Excellent food with a wide choice, service is very good
The fact that we, plus another couple were kept waiting in the street, several minutes after the published opening time, whilst the staff, who knew we were there , lit candles, did not get the evening off to a great start.
Otherwise the meal was very good.
Generally a good experience with attentive service that wasn't intrusive. For a specialist fish restaurant it was disappointing that some of the fish was slightly overcooked, losing texture and flavour. One of the fish in the "Steamed Panache of Fish" tasted very strongly of ammonia, which was unexpected, not particularly pleasant, and ill-matched to the much subtler flavours of the other fish. The skate wing (a special) was presented with the creamed potato on top, slightly spoiling the texture of the fried fish. These are minor criticisms that wouldn't stop us going back again.
Always enjoyed delicious fish dinners here. Very good service and great menu. Nice to try something different! Hope to come again.
Always a treat to visit this restaurant. Food is superb and good value. Friendly, attentive staff. Highly recommended.
Incredible food. Very good for the price. And lovely service. We will definitely go again.
A return visit and as good as the first time! Fantastic seasonal food in a lovely venue. Service was superb - attentive & helpfull. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back. Ensure to book in advance ... very popular venue for an informal dinner or a special occasion.
Always fantastic .cant fault the food .my favourite restaurant.
Amazing fish and service. Would highly recommend and will be back if we are ever in town again.
Lovely place. Well cooked seafood. Good wine list.
Great food, service. Great atmosphere. High quality but not pretentious.
We made a special trip to Rye to look around and sample some delicious seafood. We were not disappointed by the food which was exquisitely presented and delicious. The service was unfortunately slow and the waiters though willing Iseemed understaffed.
Bit of a wait for drinks service, for me, too much goats cheese on my starter and my main course a little too salty. Pudding-a pear mousse with blackberries was delicious!
Had one of the best meals ever at this place. Food, service and atmosphere great. Staff really friendly. Would highly recommend.
Food was good but our early table at 7pm meant that it was busy with families with young children. So a bit noisy for a couple dining. Not a real problem - we should have gone for 8 o'clock instead. Overall very enjoyable.
I would recommend this restaurant for the amazing food but if you make a special request when booking online don't be surprised if it doesn't happen . We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and asked for the best table in the house , only to be put in a corner opposite a very large group booking who were so loud you were unable to hear yourself speak
Superb fresh fish cooked and presented to a high standard. This restaurant continues, as it has done for many years, to deliver very good food in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Attentive and discreet staff who know their menu and wine list very well.
Delicious food. We have a lovely evening and will definitely go back if we are ever in Rye again.
Excellent food, staff and ambiance. Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area.
Our food not only look devlicious it was delicious. The prawn starter I could have eaten again and the panache of fish was beautiful too, although I could have done with a reminder of what I was eating. My husband had mussels and sea bass which he says were equally as nice. We had eaten here before and will return again.
Delicious food- prawn starter particularly good but all our dishes were excellent. Service was outstanding, we felt like honoured guests and service was friendly but professional. Restaurant had a relaxed, warm atmosphere. We will come back, in fact we will eat here whenever we are in Rye. Perfection!
Very enjoyable and would certainly go back again the food and service was excellent
Amazing food and great service. Our favourite restaurant when we visit Rye. Make sure you book a table to avoid disappointment as it always gets fully booked.
Lovely food, good atmosphere if noisy! All in all a good evening, thanks
