Casual but smart restaurant with dark wooden tables, beige bamboo wall paper and wooden flooring. This is a very popular Indian vegetarian restaurant established as part of the Woodlands Restaurant group in 1981 in London. There are over 40 branches in India!

The restaurant is ideal for easy dining with a buzzy brasserie atmosphere. Based in the heart of Theatre and just a stone's throw from Leicester Sq ideal for a pre or post theatre dining. Woodlands has recently launched a delicious and healthy Tandoor menu in which dishes are cooked in a clay oven. Also introduced recently is a innovative Organic Wine List...you really can taste the difference as these wines are much purer and lighter with a longer finish.

I booked online and was expecting a more pleasant and cozy restaurant. the seating was decent but felt like sitting in a hallway. The food was too cold upon arrival and the waitress was not so friendly. She started clearing off the table when one of us was still eating. the food overall was very tasty, but i would definately order more vegetables next time. we only had a curry sauce and some rice although i did ask the waitress what we should order out of all the categories. overall not bad, but not good either.

I really liked this restaurant and was surprised to find it right at the heart of the West End, though I hadn't heard of it before. The menu, provided you can cope without meat or fish, is strong and we received clear guidance from the staff about the kind of dishes that would best suit us. Everything we tried was very tasty and I would definitely go back. The only disappointment for me was that, as well as adding a 12.5% service charge, when I went to pay by card, I was asked if I wanted to add a gratuity. Had I not looked at the bill in detail, I could easily have added another 10%, meaning I would have been paying nearly an additional one-quarter of the total sum set out on the menu. I really think the restaurant should change this. But, to be fair, it was the only negative in what was a very good experience.

Has a gluten free menu, but a while after ordering was told the item I had ordered wasn't gluten free! I then ordered a paneer dosa but a masala dosa arrived. My companions ordered the thali which was the smallest thali Ive ever seen and not worth £20 each, we all left hungry.

Are at Woodlands with a friend. We enjoyed the meal, a mushroom curry and garlic nan for him and a masala dosa form me and garlic nan. The wood was delicious and well priced though the staff were stretched as it was busy and they missed my friends garlic nan.
The mark down was for the ambiance as the music was loud and we struggled to hear each other.

Went with my daughter for a pre-theatre meal. We shared three starters/sides and a dosa - we were worried that it wouldn't be enough but we didn't need to be. The puri was delicious, onion bhajia were very tasty but could have been crisper, cauliflower and broccoli on a griddle was good but not amazing. The dosa was excellent. Prices reasonable - will definitely return.

What a great find for dinner post-theatre - right opposite Pinter Theatre. Good selection of dishes and Thali and delicious for a non-veggie! Friendly service and fantastic value for central London. Will definitely return.

Great pre-theatre option for vegetarian food. Tasty South Indian dosas and curries in fairly upmarket/smart West End surroundings. Good service, conveniently located bang-opposite the Pinter Theatre. Great dosas, idli, chat and lassis. Jackfruit curry was a highlight for me.

Very nice food and generally reasonable but I chose a Thali which did not justify a £19 price tag (a few tiny bowls of vegetarian food with some raita and bread).

Other than this, it is generally a very nice restaurant.

Was really disappointed. The food was okay but the service was terrible. We were made to rush to place our order and made to feel unwanted. I am always hesitant to write a bad review but wanted to inform others. From what I've been told the other branch is a lot better

Nice quiet location and easy walking distance to all the main attractions nearby. However, while the food was ok, the service was exceptionally slow - had to ask 3 times for an item. Don't think I would return in a hurry.

The Woodland’s menu is impressive and the quality of the food is good, in particular for vegetarians. The wine list is adequate for daily drinks. The service was friendly but rather slow. The restaurant’s ambience is average. In overall terms, the restaurant does offer good value for money if you are after a quick and reliable meal with few frills. We will certainly return and hope that the service becomes more efficient.

Food took too long to arrive and no water was brought to the table as asked until it came to bill time and we asked again for water. A service charge was added as part of the bill which we felt was not deserved although we politely paid it. The curry was good (all vegetarian by the way), quantities modest. We had been to this restaurant before and enjoyed it but will not go again unless the restaurant offers some recompense for their inadequacy on this occasion. Water should always be served, it’s a basic service in any culture in any country.

Very good vegetarian/vegan options, traditional Indian so don't expect the normal anglicised fare. They specialise in dosas; I had the podi ghee roasted dosa which was excellent with its selection of sauces, but being crispy and about twice as long as the plate it was served on, did not lend itself to delicate table etiquette!

The pistachio kulfi for desert was thick, creamy, tasty and attractively served. The only downside was that their coffee machine was broken - so no standard "Western" coffees, but never mind, the spicier Indian coffee was a welcome substitute.
