We offer both a meat and vegetarian version of our menu, with lots of cooking done over open fire. Vegan and most dietary restrictions happily accommodated.
Our first visit to Woodlot was based on a friend's recommendation - and it didn't disappoint. If anything, the quality of food and service but especially the overall value made the experience outstanding for us. It was my boyfriend's birthday and we felt that the staff went above and beyond to surprise us in subtle ways (thankfully, no TGIF-style singing here, lol) like bringing out our dessert with a lit candle, totally unprompted but much appreciated. They even welcomed us with a sparkling wine toast upon arrival, arranged by my mother all the way home in Ireland, who mentioned how lovely the staff had been over the phone. Even the music playing was on-point. We are already looking for another excuse to return. Thank you to all at Woodlot for a fabulous experience.
Woodlot has a small dining room with tables very close together and the noise level is beyond "energetic"; it is NOISY. We were a party of three with a reservation at 8PM and were placed in the middle of the room, somehow exacerbating the noise. When we asked about an empty table on the side, and apparently somewhat removed from the din, we were told it was held for parties of four or five (it was set for four). About half an hour later three people walked in and were seated at the table in question. Needless to say, having asked to move there ourselves, we were annoyed, and again spoke with the hostess. She said the party was supposed to be five, but a couple of the group were no shows. Had she been more gracious about it we might have been more forgiving, but she was actually on the confrontational side.
I have learned that if you are hoping for a quieter table at Woodlot, and you are only three friends, book for five anyway and claim some of your group dropped out. But mostly I have learned not even to bother with Woodlot. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area, most with nicer staff.
The food selection was limited and it wasn’t worth the price. Long wait for food as well.
I love the cozy ambience of the place provided by wood-burning oven. The food was very tasty but there were a few key flaws with service and delivery. It took a long time for the server to take our drink order. We were a party of 4 but 2 of us arrived before the rest of the party and it wasn't until then that our drink orders were taken. We would have liked to order a drink while we were waiting. 2 of us ordered a different pasta for our mains and each one was served on a large flat plate, which is absolutely the wrong vessel. It made the order of cappelletti seem incredibly small because all you could see on the plate was a huge empty space relative to the number of cappelletti. A creative attempt at plating gone wrong. The order of trofie also appeared meager on the plate, with no lip to help you pick up the noodles with your fork. Once it was served, there was no offer of fresh-cracked pepper, and the server never came back to check on us until 1 of us was already done eating. These flaws aside, it was still an enjoyable experience
Excellent ambiance, very cozy and romantic feeling, great for dates or anniversaries. Food was delicious, however portions aren’t too big (the only thing I could think negatively of), however this is becoming the norm so it’s nothing out of the ordinary. Would definitely recommend!
As always Woodlot is a very good place for any special occasion or even if you just want a really good night out. Try the mushroom appetizer, it's incredible.
The food is excellent, the service attentive, the cocktails delicious, and the wines interesting! I could wish for more ambient light, however.
Lovely service with excellent recommendations. Impromptu fire works. Loved every minute.
We went here for our first wedding anniversary - although they accommodated us for being late, they had not bother checking that we had mentioned a special occasion in our reservation.
The servers were just nice enough to not call them rude, but they could not handle the volume. After we finished dinner, we asked for our check because no one even told us that there is a dessert menu, and when I pointed that out, the server said sorry it got hectic - no, you didn't pay attention. It is part of your process to ask for dessert, if you don't do it, the guest will assume that there is none.
The food was great, but the service just could not live up to it - they were both overwhelmed and uninterested.
Delicious. Local ingredients, made from scratch, unhurried. Great meal
my 3 x 3 ranking (3 good and 3 improvement) The good - Hands down the French Onion Soup. Excellent. The mushroom, wild rice beet salad also very good. Both dishes had great flavours. The woman who served us. (friendly, etc) Opportunities, Chicken and bacon dish overly salty. Remember the bacon already gives the chicken quite a bit of salt flavour, not much more needs to be added. Sauce on steak is a bit much and please get another credit card machine. Excessive waits when only one in the house. Lastly, (maybe its just me) but the layout made me uneasy. 40+ guests are elevated and towards the back. The one stairway to get down is quite a ways from the lone exit out and it is close to a large indoor oven.
Beautiful food and the service was fantastic. Can’t wait to come back
We had a great server --- very patient and good energy. The food was very tasty. This is a special place.
Great place. Lovely food, amazing staff and great ambiance. Definitely a place I go out of my way to visit every time I'm in Toronto.
For all the hype this place has revived, I was expecting something more. It was just ok. The food was tasty, but certainly not outstanding.
Service was just ok. Was there years ago and was underwhelmed with service then and more this time.
For the amount of money we spent we should of been given an experience we did not even get bread to our table after asking.
Would not recommend or return.
Amazing food and great service!
One the best experiences I've had at a restaurant in Toronto. Highly recommend!!!
Best dinner in Toronto. For date night or groups. The composition of dishes is always creative, seasonal absolutely outstanding
Very cozy restaurant - perfect for a cold Toronto night.
We sat at the bar and enjoyed French onion soup and the steak.
The soup was mediocre - there was little to no broth as it had been absorbed by the bread.
The steak was to die for and the ambience is wonderful and romantic.
I'd definitely recommend this spot for an intimate night out!
We loved the food. The chef knows how to make food that stands out. Also liked that they have a lot of tables for 2 so you can have an intimate dinner in a dim atmosphere that is not too noisy.
We were celebrating my birthday.
The food was inventive and fresh, with great service.
The new only drawback was my vegan squash entree.
There just wasn’t enough food as a main course, however the flavours profiled were excellent.
Food was beyond words. Really good. Definitely coming again.
Food was good, though not extraordinary, and overpriced given the tiny portion size.
Service left a lot to be desired. Shortly after finishing dessert and within minutes of paying our bill, we were rudely asked to leave while in mid conversation to accommodate the nexts guests. No tact or manners were involved. I felt like I was loitering in a fast food restaurant. This put a damper on the entire dining experience. Will not be returning.
Loved the atmosphere and their playlist was awesome. We’d definitely go back!
Had a terrible experience at Woodlot. First, my friend and I ordered two drinks that took over 15 minutes to arrive, with no sympathy from the staff. We then ordered the eggplant and pork dish to share. We were told the pork chop would 'take hours' so advised they'd bring the eggplant first. The eggplant was yummy but small given the price. The pork didn't arrive until 10 (we had an 8:45 reservation)! It was also tiny and extremely tough - I couldn't even cut it. At that point, we decided to just leave. We asked the server for our bill and told him the pork was tough. He brought it to the chef who apparently took one bite and threw it out. They deducted the pork from our bill but that was it. Definitely will not be back.
Food was great, however there were a few misses along the way with the service. We tried to order a bottle of wine, only to find out they were sold out of that one, found an alternative and they were also sold out of that... So after much back and forth we ended up with a bottle, that they did had but we'll above our price range. The server should know the wine list and notify us before we start looking what they are out of. Secondly we order a beer which took almost the full length of our mains to get. Lastly, we ordered the steak which was tasty however it was missing the clams and the peppers.. and we didn't realize that until after we finished - and the server didn't either.... The food was great, I would still recomend going but their level of service doesn't align with cost and caliber of the food.
First time in Toronto, amazing meal from oysters, mushroom appetizer and spicy eggplant cappelletti, wonder wine selection also.
Food is always so good here. Portions on the smaller side but that allows you to leave room for dessert!
Server is humorous and very friendly.
We really like the setting of the restaurant.
I request table 14 and got it. A perfect evening with great recommendations and service!
We love woodlot! its out go-to for celebrating a special night. Its so cozy, the staff is fantastic and the food is immaculate. A real gem in the city.
We had a delicious meal with a wild bottle of wine. The service was great!
Exceptional dishes in a beautiful setting. Cozy and intimate for a beautiful meal. Loved every dish we had, and the wine/cocktail selection is excellent. Would highly recommend!
Delicious food, but unfortunately over priced given the small serving size. I got the Spicy Eggplant and Ricotta Cappelletti, the filling was creamy and flavorful.
We discussed our impression after the evening; the food portions were small but tasty. We were still hungry by the end of dinner. As for everything else, I think the ambiance is what makes the restaurant. The menu could use some more variety. I do not suggest a split menu between Veg and Regular; you should combine it into one and make a friendly menu for everyone.
Food and ambience was great! It was an anniversary dinner which was noted in reservation comments. My girlfriend and I were talking about sharing our meals, but service thought entres need to come out sequential as opposed to together. So we ended up sharing one entre then the other came out which we shared. Seems to have been a case of miscommunication. Also, surprised no gesture for anniversary (a cookie or dessert on the house) like numerous other places do. Or even a 'sorry' gesture km miscommunication as we did inform the server.
All in all, we would definitely go back for the amazing food and ambience.
really good fresh food. would recommend and go away
This is such a special place. The food is mindblowing, the staff are incredibly kind. My partner and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary there last week and left the place glowing. I can't recommend Woodlot enough. Be sure to order the hen of the woods mushroom dish.
