Founded in 2013 by Davin and Jessica Waite, Wrench & Rodent is a space for culinary exploration and collaboration. This cozy, eclectic restaurant quickly became a destination for those who appreciated Chef Davin’s creative approach to celebrating local and responsibly sourced fish and produce.

In addition to a set sushi menu, Wrench offers an omakase as well as a list of specials that change daily. The team is committed to reducing waste and enhancing flavor by elevating all cuts of fish and veggies, as well as featuring a diverse range of species. Many menu items are simple, fresh and creative, with a lesser-known fish species complimented by ingredients from the backyard garden. Byproduct utilization drives the menu as well, and recent explorations with aging techniques have led to a dry aged fish program. Plant-forward preparations are also celebrated, and a vegan omakase is available upon request.

From the OpenTable editors: A pub isn’t an obvious backdrop for sushi, but culinary power couple Jessica and Davin Waite make a passionate case. Their punk-rock Oceanside spot is serious about a zero-waste philosophy—almost every fish part is used in their rolls, including the Green Lantern, an avocado and crab version topped with salmon and arugula chimichurri.

    There are truly too many good things to say about this restaurant. I intended to write a review after eating there the first time and never did. I’m glad I waited to heap almost a year’s worth of praise onto it. This has now become a no hesitation go-to. Literally every time we’ve eaten there it’s been outstanding. Part of me doesn’t want the word getting out further for fear of not getting in as regularly. The standard menu is packed with top notch choices anyone with a mouth will enjoy. The specials menu is a carousel of insane creativity. Sushi combinations I’ve genuinely not seen anywhere are surprising even after dining there on a near-weekly basis. Ahi and fig? Snapper and pineapple? Zucchini flower and spicy tuna?? Stop. Just stop. It’s like hearing Sgt Pepper’s for the first time but with your taste buds. Oh the while staff are incredibly kind, and it’s clear they love working there. Go now. Stop reading this review and go there. If it’s closed, just wait there.

    Delightful waitress. Excellent food. Very very weak cocktails (almost like they forgot the booze) & forgettable wines.

    They has unique sushi dishes and presentation. Not your ordinary sushi restaurant. I highly recommend this place if you want a truely gastro experience or something different from other restaurants. Great place!

    Roasted Cauliflower was so good, next the salmon and albacore nigiri were yummy. Rolls were just ok. Server was great and apologetic for keeping us waiting and comped us a fig and tuna dish that was delicious. It was very hot, no AC. Overall good.

    Slow!! We made a reservation and walked up behind a group that knew the people that worked there and had no reservations. They were seated promptly and chatted with all the employees while we waited. After 20 mins they pointed at the table we would sit at and it just needed to be setup. After another 20 minutes to put plates on that table they sat us. 40 mins after our reservation we waited for a menu and service. After 10 minute the server came by to take our order. Luckily the food came out very quickly and was amazing! Chef saved the day.

    Our go to place for sushi. Always excellent and innovative. Our server, Milo, was great, as has been all the servers each time we have come her.
