Very good food, Sushi was excellent, enjoyed by all.
Good experience as ever here. Vibrant place. A good staple restaurant in Belsize Park.
The ambience in the bar before dinner was good, and the food delicious. But it was spoilt with very poor service. We were left in the bar and had to go ask 3 times if our table was ready (it was not particularly busy). Service at the table was OK, but it certainly wasn't the kind of service to justify the high prices. The 50% discount made the food decent value, but I really don't see the point in charging such high prices to then have to discount it. £37 for one portion of black cod is outrageous. I don't think even Nobu charges that. We are local and would love to see it be a great local restaurant, but on our experience, I'm afraid it wasn't.
I have been going to XO for several years but their standards are starting to slip and went with friends for a birthday meal. There was nothing wrong with our starters, and the duck/watermelon salad was a good as ever, but the squid used to be done so much better there. but the prices are high and the portions small. The mains fared no better and the korean lamb with kimchi was poor value at £25.00 for 3 luke warm lamb cutlets when the competition in the the london asian restaurant market remains fierce. service was also a little hit and miss (eg 1 finger bowl for the 4 of us? Was there a run on finger bowls?) could have been more accurate and attentive. For such a high end place, I walked away thinking, I wont bother going back for a while, and that's a shame as I would much rather go somewhere else for the money.
Excellent waitress who was very helpful with explaining the menu. Very poor management as upon arrival they told me they couldn't not check my booking via Open table and I had to show them I was on their own computer screen right in front of me! This is my second open table booking in a row at different venues to make the same error! Please ensure you are in full communication with the open table staff and company as you would have lost my custom based on this arrival the greeting was so poor.
Overpriced for the quality of food
Went there for a sunday meal, the food was fresh and light, which considering the heatwave in london was great...
Very nice setting and the food was really fresh with vibrant flavours. We loved the lychees in the pumpkin chicken curry, so unexpected but a delicious surprise.
It was awful; the service was awful and the food was awful. Enough said!
10 days ago we had another great evening at e&o
XO has a similar menu & wine list and the same owner.
What could possibly go wrong? as it turns out, lots of things.....
At 8pm on a Saturday evening, the bar was more or less empty and the restaurant no more than a third full - never a good sign
Despite the restaurant being very quiet we were constantly pressured to order, despite being in no hurry and still enjoying our pre-dinner drinks
When we did order, what arrived wasn't a patch on e&o e.g. the pad thai was tasteless, the short rib was fatty and the noodles limp & oily.
We also had the roasted sea bass, our favourite dish from e&o. At e&o, the waitress offered to fillet the fish - we accepted. At XO, we asked for it to be filleted (it makes it easier for 4 to share) - we were told that 'we don't do that here'.
And so on....
In summary, if you like the menu, go to e&o - it's worth the drive
it was a great meal as always. XO is the best restaurant by far in our area. Always good and the Sunday discount is really very much appreciated.
Lovely evening, food fab , cocktails gr8
Would recommend this restaurant .
Food not good. Place empty, sent food back that was not what we ordered or fresh and still got charged. Has really gone downhill. Won't go back.
One of my favourites for a special dinner, it was lovely as always. Tasty food, nice cocktails and good service.
Lovely place... Food was cooked really well and more importantly tasted amazing!
Ambiance wise, it could have been a bit busier but still, it meant I got great service :)
Good food - poor service - poor customer attitude -
Always loved XO in the past but food & ambience a real disappointment. Cocktails still great & attentive service.
Lovely experience! We went for a celebratory dinner with my parents. The food was great and the staff attentive. We will definitely return!
The food was overpriced and pretty tasteless all
my friends agreed in this. I had sushi I don't like it . we thought dessert would be better but we were wrong two of us had ginger cheesecake for dessert that only tasted only of sugar and ginger we didn't like it
Great food and great service lovely people friendly and helpful! Tasty food and great atmosphere! Can't wait to return !
Took my family there for a valentines meal and to celebrate a 60th birthday, we were seated then ignored for 25 minutes, my husband had to go to the reception to ask if anyone was serving the area, when someone did come over they didn't even apologise, so decided it would be better to leave.
Give it a miss.
Food was very good, lovely waitress, one or two dishes weren't to my fancy, but other than that was a great all round experience.
Honestly the worst service I think I've ever received when dining out. Although on first impressions the restaurant itself was lovely and the choices in food looked great, we never managed to try any after waiting for an hour and a half!!
Firstly, it wasn't appreciated that the floor manager didn't recognise us on the 3 occasions that we spoke to her. Secondly, it took us 30 mins just to get served.
Having worked in food & catering, I understand how it can become busy on specific dates of the year, but we were not the only couple to complain - if your member of staff is struggling, get someone else to help serve!!
Finally, we may have considered staying for our food (which wasn't even prepared through the hour and a half wait) if we were offered starters that didn't need cooking or even a complimentary drink...neither were.
Really, really disappointed by the entire experience after read other good reviews.
XO has a great ambiance and is perfect for a date. The staff are friendly and very attentive without overdoing it. The food is much more interesting and tastier than many pan Asian style restaurants.
The new side room is a disaster - it feels liked a waiting room, is cramped and has terrible acoustics - we felt like second class citizens, not allowed into the main restaurant. And the special menu is bizarre, and sounded very unappetising. Please re-think, as I used to love XO!
quite a buzzy place in the evening but absolutely empty and dull at lunch time. Food was faboulous but expensive! Service was very poor and the waiter couldn't have been more unfriendly
main restaurant is now closed on most days so you eat in a very small room to the side. Accoustics are poor and the atmosphere is lacking. Food is better than it used to be.
It feels as if the restaurant is close to closing down sadly
We've been to XO a number of times but always in a group. The food has always been top quality so I decided to book a table for my wife's birthday. Instead of mains we shared a number of the smaller dishes. All of the food was fresh but our favourites were the ribs and cod tempura... absolutely fantastic.
Not only that but because we went on a Sunday we took advantage of the 40% off and the food was therefore great valur for money. The service was also attentive as usual. My wite has a nut allergy but as the food is fresh XO can cater for her where she's otherwise unable to eat asian cuisine.
Our favourite local restaurant... highly recommend.
Food was okay a bit over priced for what it was and not much atmosphere.....
Brilliant food. Every dish great. Good atmosphere. Been here many times. Try the duck and watermelon salad!!
Great New Year menu and seated 6 of us at short notice. Good value and friendly staff
Very tasty food-good choice for fish and vegetarians. It's expensive £50 a head but good quality. And reasonably healthy
The food at XO is always delicious, especially the sushi starters. Service was outstanding. Decor starting to look a little tired though.
Great food, great service!!!!
I think that XO has had its day, over prices and out of date food. The meal average but for the price there are better places to go to.
I love XO, the food never dissapoints and its a great ambience for an evening out. Must try their chilli salt squid, tuna tarare and chrunchy sushi.
I booked Xo for my wife and I's 15th Wedding Anniversary. We had a really nice evening. We were served a glass of champagne as we sat down followed by a fantastic dinner. I cannot recommend Xo enough.
I had a fantastic time with my other half. We will be returning soon
Food outstanding highly recommend
Even though delicious I thought the blackened cod was pricey at £35. Ribs also delicious but the ones on the bottom of the small pile were cold. Lovely Pad Thai.
