Always a lovely meal & experience
This was a bit hit and miss. On the plus side, the lychee martini, dynamite beef and chicken gyoza were excellent.
The chicken we had, however, was very dry and the edamame beans didn’t really taste of anything. We asked for the first to be taken off the bill which the staff did readily.
The service however was extremely slow. We had hoped to order brunch which was advertised as being served from 12pm to 3pm, so we booked a table for 2pm. We were told on arrival that there wouldn’t be time for us to order from the brunch menu, which was a bit annoying, but we ordered from the a la carte menu anyway. Our food then took nearly an hour to arrive.
We did not receive an apology for the wait until the end of the meal when we asked for the service charge to be removed. In all fairness they were very busy, but I would have expected the manager of a restaurant to anticipate this and ensure that there were staff available to cope with this.
All in all we won’t be rushing back.
I was so disappointed with Yama Moto. We had eaten there for the second time in a week. We were lucky enough to be invited via a friend who knows the owner the week before. The service both times has been really bad. Waiting 10 minutes to be asked if you would like a drink then they would Forget you had ordered a drink
This Saturday on our 2nd visit however the service was terrible. They lost our order twice and on the third time of putting our desert order through We waited an hour for desert. We were given deserts on the house. However we had ordered drinks to have with desert which were finished 30 minutes before desert appeared. I pointed out to the manager that whilst we waited they should immediately offer us a drink Whilst we continued to wait. That’s customer service. Eventually the manager agreed and he also knocked off the service charge too. The service to be honest was equally as bad both times
On a positive note the food is really good and it’s local to us so it’s won’t put us off going again.
They just need to sort out a few issues
Excellent food. Easily some of the best Japanese I’ve had.
Yama Momo always delivers. Fantastic food and exceptional service. It is expensive but no more than you would expect in a restaurant of this quality. Love the fact that they dont hurry you off a table. Food is beautiful presented, service outstanding and drinks/cocktail menu first class. If I had any complaints it would be that it is a little hot, noisy and cramped on tables (we were 5 on a 4 seater table) but we did visit on a Saturday evening.
Best food in town! Service and food brilliant. Outstanding evening, couldn’t have asked for more.
Food delicious, with the Tuna Tataki and the luxury sashimi selection particular stand outs from the 5 or 6 dishes we had. The sashimi was some of the best I've had - incredibly fresh and rich. The cocktails were varied, unusual and extremely tasty. The ambience is quite cool and pretty - my only negative would be that the tables are quite crowded in. That's okay for the most part but we were celebrating our anniversary (and had booked weeks in advance, noting the occasion) so would've appreciated one of the tables in the restaurant that was not so cramped together as we felt closer to the people at the table next to us than each other.
Great food, great ambience, great service! And the luxury desert platter was fantastic! One of our favourites in dulwich!
Excellent ambience and caring and polite staff. Good food and generous portion sizes. A little steep for what you got - a very small Red Dragon Cocktail at £11 is difficult to justify but that is a small gripe in a largely successful dining experience. Very flavoursome food. Another mention for the exceptional efforts of all the staff.
Food was amazing.
More lighting needed in the restaurant.
There were a lot of flies around our table.
Great food, excellent service. Very enjoyable. Will definitely return.
We regularly go to Yama Momo. The food is always delicious! Love it there.
4th visit for the all you can eat buffet.. everything is freshly cooked upon ordering. The only thing I wish the would do, is alter the menu and add some new items.
Second time at Yama Momo. We came for my girlfriend's birthday having been impressed.the first time.
We waited half an hour to be seated even though we had booked a table at 9:15, I think our table was given away to another couple didn't book. It took a further 15minutes to be offered a drink while we sat at the bar. The manager came over every 10 minute's to tell us we will have our table in another five minutes. I could see people sat at tables who had finished but no effort was made to ask them to leave (standard practice from my experience as a waiter). We were not given any menus whilst we waited so I took one myself. He gave us some complimentary squid whilst we waited, which was really good and a nice gesture.
Eventually when we sat down we had to call over the manager to take our food order (obviously we knew straight away what we wanted as we had 30mins to decide). We asked for some water which never arrived so we asked again when our starters arrived.
There was no delay in food arriving and the starters were delicious but the sushi was not the best. We were also given the wrong order (Salmon and Avacado instead of Avacado and Cucumber) we didn't care as we were so hungry but no check back was done during our meal so we didn't have an opportunity to mention this.
The front door was opened and the air-con was turned on half way during our meal (presumably as a tactic to encourage customers to leave as it was late and the restaurant was not overly warm). I couldn't get anybody's attention to address this so I closed the door myself.
Our plates took a while to be cleared and no dessert menu was offered when they eventually were. We called another manager over to ask for the dessert menu.
Dessert was okay, my chocolate fondant was flat as a pancake but still tasted good.
When the bill arrived nothing had been taken off even though our table was 30 minutes late, and a £9 service charge had been added. The service was worth about £2.
Great vegan food options here, not marked on the menu but if you ask your server they can tell you what's vegan. Very delicious food, great service and incredible cocktails.
We loved our whole experience here. The food, cocktails, atmosphere and service were all amazing. We found ourselves looking at all the food that as coming out for other diners and deciding that we need to come back a few more times in order to try everything we'd like to.
Amazing service and great food!
absolutely beautiful food have been here lots of times and i'm never disappointed the food is really authentic and full of flavours and the presentation is fantastic, waiter spilled a pot of soy sauce on to my partners shoes which is the only reason for a mark down, overall fantastic, cannot wait to visit again !!!
The waiter was stepping on our necks about the two hour maximum when it was pouring with rain outside, we took our time to leave just so we could order an Uber but didn’t like the fact he was pretty much pushing us out of the restaurant, he could’ve handled that 100 times better. But food was amazing, would go back for the food service would’ve been 5/5 if it wasn’t for him
Great location, decorated beautifully. Had a very enjoyable experience.
This is a family favourite, always great food and service
Last minute family get together. The food was amazing, great service and overall a great place to eat. Will definitely be going again.
Yama Moma food is amazing, great flavours, quality ingredients and presentation.
Very friendly and professional staff, overall a great dining experience. Try the truffle beef!!
It’s a lovely little restaurant although a little tight for space and the service is very slow and pretty poor. Food is good and tasty
One of my absolute favourite restaurants - the food is always of a high standard and comes out piping hot, and the cocktails are AMAZING! (you can't go and not have one). Would recommend the scallops as starter if you like seafood and the truffle tofu is really good if you are a veggi or just want to eat less meat. Everything is good on this menu, you will be spoilt for choice :)
Amazing Lunch... been several times and never had any issues with the food or service.
The choices on the all you can eat menu is quite extensive!! All the dishes are freshly prepared n present it nicely. The staffs are friendly and attentive. It’s my regular place when I want to indulge myself for a weekend brunch!! Highly recommend!!
Always a wonderful evening. The Seabass is so good.
Fantastic food, cocktails and Service! A great neighbourhood restaurant!
It was actually a meal for my birthday, but we didn’t tell them that, so they don’t lose any points for not making a special fuss of me. I don’t expect them to be psychic! However, they were close to it, as the service was consistently so charming, so personal, so friendly and so attentive. Top marks to all the lovely staff. They were also exceptionally nice and flexible about me calling up to ask if I could move our table until later because we wanted to finish watching the Wimbledon semi-final!
Yama Momo is very pretty restaurant, beautifully fitted out with two main rooms and a sushi bar on the lower level where you could watch the chefs at work. We had a table in the main room, which currently is looking exceptionally nice with pink artificial flowers in garlands all around the windows and exterior. It was a pretty hot day, and they had the folding windows open onto the street, but also had the air-conditioning on. This was a mixed blessing, as it was shooting out freezing jets of cold air, which was actually a bit unpleasantly chilly. I only mention that to try and provide a balanced review, as it was the only negative of any sort.
The food was absolutely gorgeous, and several notches above what I was expecting. Even everyday basics such as avocado maki were much more elaborate and delicately flavoured than one usually gets. Shrimp and vegetable tempura were beautiful. For main courses we had salmon teriyaki and roast pork belly, both faultless. Vegetables also consistently good quality and cooked to perfection. The food and the attention to detail are seriously impressive in what it is, after all, a local restaurant and not the West End. I forgot to mention the cocktails, all with a Japanese twist, which were very good. I had a Geisha, where Jasmine gin is one of the ingredients. That was wonderful too.
It’s a long time since I have found a neighbourhood restaurant I liked as much as this and I will certainly be going back (frequently!).
Superb , great service and fiod, thoroughly enjoyable , have already booked to come again
We have not been to Yama Momo for over 2 years (the joy of being new parents) and we forgot how really great it was. Food was amazing, service great.
It’s easy to forget how good quality it is and it’s not far away from where we live.
Will go more often.
Always great food
Amazing and attentive staff! Food and cocktails were basic.
Super food, very attentive service and really nice relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely return
Tasty food served in a pleasant decor. Portions are fair for the price - but not enormous.
It may be that I'm unlucky in choosing timings, and always turn up at the busiest of times, but this is the second visit I've made where service has been a bit haphazard.
Fantastic fresh wonderful tasting sushi as always in this gem of a neighbourhood restaurant. Have been here many times and the cocktails and food are West End quality. Fairly pricey as you get what you pay for however I did feel that as regular customers celebrating a family birthday, the dessert ‘surprise’ should have been on the house not £15. Gets very busy in the evenings but that is due to the food quality. Keep up the good work!
My favourite Japanese restaurant ever! Will keep on inviting my friends :)
Yama Momo never fails to disappoint!
I was treating my friend to a 40th dinner and we had such an incredible time, fantastic food, service and ambience.
I’ll be back, in a few weeks with the in laws for Sunday lunch 😁
The food is well presented and very good but having eaten here a few times, the service of the food is a little illogical. We had asked for edaname beans to nibble on whilst waiting for starters. They arrived after the starters which all arrived at different times and we were puzzled also that sushi that had been ordered as a main course, was the last main course to arrive, meaning that we had finished ours before our daughter could eat hers. The level of noise made it hard for the waitress to hear us properly (we had asked that all be delivered together and edame beans to keep us going whilst waiting) and so that may have been part of the problem. She was very friendly but instead of asking if we needed 5 minutes to order she told us to just call her name (which would have been impossible as not always in view or able to hear in this noisy venue)... It would be good if there was something alternative to nibble on whilst waiting for a starter - as edaname was the only option and obviously has to be cooked. The air con was a little too cold and direct as well. The food is good but maybe a little more range of choice would be nice.
