Great service as always
Tempura has always been good here and again was the star of the show, beautifully crisp exterior and light delicate black cod in the middle. The vegetable tempura were not overcooked so had a nice bite to them.
The pork rib special was OK, nicely cooked but was a little bland without the spicy sauce that accompanied. I thought more could have been done with this.
The sushi was a little disappointing. When the spicy tuna and avocado and snow crab maki arrived I was slightly taken aback by the large amounts of what I would describe as 'Japanese-style thousand island dressing' ladled over the top. Whilst the sauce was nice, it totally masked the flavour of the delicate crab and tuna underneath and it felt as if I was not really eating sushi. I think the sauce was used to mask the blandness of the perhaps slightly lower grade fish. We ordered the sashimi plate afterwards and the tuna there was quite bland, which supported my suspicions.
Overall I enjoyed the experience. The 80s hits playing were well suited to a Friday night and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice end of the week treat. However, if you are a purist when it comes to sushi I would not be temped by what they have on offer and instead focus more on the mains, tempura and starters, which are all great for sharing amongst any sized group.
The cocktails are also inventive and interesting!
Delicious food and amazing cocktails. Definitely recommended
Lovely dinner! We go to Yama very often and the food is always amazing which makes up for the service on some occasions. Tonight, for the first time the service was outstanding and it was all down to Gabi, who was really nice and attentive and looked after us extremely well! Thank you very much, Gabi!
Great value all you can eat £25 lunch time deal, amazing food.
My “medium-rare” duck was just blue, not properly cut (what makes it impossible to eat with chop skicks) and uneatable and really chewy agh
Always good food. Always excellent service. DO NOT miss the cocktails; this place punches above its grade.
We enjoyed our meal . I think next time we will be more adventurous
Very good food apart from over cooked Chicken breast teriyaki. Prices are West/Central London prices (4 people, 1 bottle of wine, one Prosecco, 1 cocktail), starters, mains ALMOST £300. Ouch. We were in for a shock. Tempura here is fantastic. Black cod very nice but priced at £30 you would want more from the dish.
Music choice on a Saturday night dreadful -hard house at times. Should play ambient music in our opinion to give it a more classy vibe. Enjoyed the food overall but wouldn’t recommend due to the price point.
Yama Momo serves consistently good Japanese food with some Korean influences. The drawback is the patchy service. The snow crab shu mai (steamed dumplings) and tempura shrimp are delicious and the teriyaki rib-eye steak is always excellent. A reasonable wine list and good house sake.
The luxury sashimi was sensational as was the beef teriyaki.
The food was absolutely fantastic. The service was wonderful. The only recommendation I would have is that the restaurant doesn’t try to squeeze so many customers in. For the price of the restaurant and the clear focus on good service, it is surprising how many tables they have tried to get in!
Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant but would be wary about the lack of personal space/ cramped nature of the set up.
Dishes to recommend:
1. The prawn tempura - the best quality prawn tempura I have ever had. The vegetable tempura was excellent too.
2. The pork belly - incredible flavoursome and the right amount of sweetness.
3. The snow crab entree AND the snow crab maki - both were incredible in their own ways.
The Dynasty cocktail was absolutely worth trying - which comes with sweet yet sharp raspberry sorbet on the side.
Great food and a lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend as a gem on Lordship Lane.
Given prices, staff should be better informed. We decided against the all you can eat menu as we couldn't really establish from staff how it worked. There were a few more examples of this throughout our meal from 3 different members of staff so it was widespread. It wasn't that easy to get attention either and the restaurant was quiet. Food and drinks were nice. Given prices, I would just expect better informed service. Staff were all very friendly though.
We’ve been here numerous times and it always delivers. Great service, food and ambience. Great for families too.
the best Japanese food in East Dulwich. good cocktails but fairly expensive
Excellent food, good ambience, kids friendly. Special offer of Extra 20% discount on a la carte menu was a bonus, but we had to remind the waiter as the first bill we received did not include it! The food is excellent but is an expensive restaurant and the 20% discount makes it a bit more affordable.
Never had anything but a perfect evening here. Delicious food & cocktails, great service. Love this place!
Great sushi, lovely prawn appetiser, and really delicious cocktails and sake menu to choose from. The ambiance and service were good and you’d never know you’re in East dulwich, could be the heart of Hackney.
The atmosphere was great, specially dim lightening was perfect for my daughter. It was her birthday and staff was singing happy birthday, which was nice.
I went there with a group of friends. We ordered from the set menu. The selection was right up my alley. The service was prompt and friendly. We all left super happy.
Delicous fresh food and tne staff really made the effort to make my daughters birthday meal special. We all had mocktails which we loved and they decorated the birthday cake very prettily
Great food and atmosphere
Some delays in service of table and drinks
A blank look from the manager at entrance despite booking the table. He just walked off with no explanation!
Overall good fun but they need to ensure the welcome matches the price
First time visit and pleasantly surprised. Great quality food, very attentive service and really nice ambience. Will be going back to try more on the menu!
Was not impressed with the food as three of out of four of us enjoyed food. We felt that both tofu dishes that we had was very bland. My husband felt that his meal was bland also. Not what we expected at all.
Creative and exquisite food and drinks. Always a pleasure to dine there.
Great food, good atmosphere, service was not up to expectations
The passion fruit cheese cake was so good, we ordered 2 each!!
Love this restaurant so much I keep coming back! Deliciously freshly cooked food, attentive staff and great atmosphere!
We visit the restaurant frequently for anniversary's birthdays, my husband and children know this is my favourite restaurant so do they can to book. We are recognised and made to feel very welcome when we arrive which is lovely. I don't want to complain because it is so lovely but we do encounter a lot of midges/flies not really sure what they are, but they are always there.
Delicious food, friendly helpful staff and a good atmosphere.... the sushi was amazing! The cocktails looked fabulous too, quite spectacular 🤩
The Food was amazing as usual but I felt that the portions were not as generous as on previous occasions.
This remains one of my favorite in East Dulwich
Fabulous fresh sushi in elegant surroundings...we return again and again!
The food at this restaurant is always very good, as are the cocktails. Service can sometimes be a little bit chaotic when its in full flow, but as regulars we are used to that now! The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. Having just experienced a Michelin star Japanese restaurant, the food here is as good, and in some cases was actually much better!
Great neighbourhood teriyaki restaurant. Have been many times and always great food.
Great evening. Had a short wait at the bar. The cocktails were great, and choice not too overwhelming. Food was delicious, quite generous portions too! Like we weren't told that there was lots of veg that came along with our mains and we had ordered a side dish of veg on top (for nothing as we could not finish it!).
Really great sushi. Good service. Great experience overall.
The food is somewhat inconsistent and seems slightly different every time. The first time I went I had a vegetarian roll with a mayonaissy dressing and some 'fried tempura flakes' . The vegetarian flakes have been missing since and they are not as tasty without and also surely important to add the ingredients that the menu states. The staff often seem to know nothing at all about the food or misunderstand every question. Something that must definitely be addressed it that the vegetarian sushi is often served on the same plate as the fish ones ordered by other people. When I've questioned this, the staff don't seem to understand the concept of vegetarianism.
As always never disappointed with the standard of the food. I went for the Tiger Rolls (as they looked delicious when delivered to another table ) despite not being a complete sushi fan (only supermarket quick take away experience) and they were amazing. Fresh tasty and full of fresh salmon. and avocado and prawns and not just the usual cold plain sushi rice experience. Service excellent too.
Cant fault the food at all.. Really good. The service struggles on a busy Saturday eve. The manager acknowledged and apologised and discounted our final bill, so not much else he could do. Hopefully it was an off night, as food is worth returning for
