About
A really enjoyable early evening meal. Friendly staff. Lovely garlic bread.
The starter- cheese, was lovely. The beef brisket was more like a bolognese which was not what was expected and the potatos with the chicken tasted like they were fried in lemon. The cocktails tasted like there was no alcohol and were watered down. Wouldn’t recommend.
Hello,
I came to Zizzis yesterday evening with my work colleagues as our Christmas meal. I called beforehand and the woman I spoke to was very helpful & confirmed I could extend our booking from 8 to 12 people which I greatly appreciated.
When we got there the booking could not be found, causing me stress with everyone else - when in fact it was there all along and the person at the front didn’t look properly.
Once we were seated we were given our waiter for the evening who unfortunately was not helpful in any way at all.
- We ordered two portions of olives, only one appeared.
- My friend ordered a meat pizza and when he came and bought it to her she asked for some extra pizza sauce to which he replied with it’s got meat on it, is that the meat you eat? (She was Indian and it just came across quite insensitive)
- I don’t think he smiled once during the entire 2 hours we were there
- He refused to engage with us, or ask if the meals were okay
- Trying to ask for more drinks made us feel bad as it appeared to be a very tiresome task for him to do his job
Unfortunately I did not get his name as no one at Zizzis wore name badges last night. I was deeply disappointed in the service we had for our Christmas meal yesterday evening. I understand it was busy however it was a case of this one persons awful attitude that seemed to ruin our meal.
Please contact me via email on jeminie_patel05@hotmail.co.uk to discuss further.
Thanks

Management had no idea how to greet guests dining at the restaurant, lack of engagement/disregarding whom ever he interacted with.
As a whole the restaurant seemed very understaffed (don’t take my word for it). However they all appeared overwhelmed (apart from 2/3), lack of training among the team.
Food was very very bland. We specifically asked for a Bruschetta without Parmesan, listed on the menu (therefore we knew to ask). It arrived with Parmesan TWICE! Eventually we were brought a Bruschetta with a tiny amount of Tomato & Dressing.
Made for a distressing date night 😂😂
Location is lovely, overlooking canal - looks great at night!
It was very noisy, and not a lot of waiting staff, my friend had a mushroom risotto which she didn’t eat, said was very bland and had no taste, nobody came to check if our meals were ok until they cleared the plates by that time it was too late, we weren’t offered any money back just if my friend would like anything else which she said no as we’d all finished.
Lovely food with great and friendly service. Had lovely pre theatre meal. Made the night extra wonderful
Good food, not long to wait for food.
Easy to book a table for a pre concert meal.
All good tonight..although the restaurant was really busy, we were sat down straight away, as I had reserved a table, drinks and food served quickly!!
Booked on Opentable for 7 people. Turned up and they said they didn’t receive our booking and it was Open Tables issue. Terrible service as we were not offered any alternatives.
Missed our table as we were late but they very kindly still accommodated us even though it was Black Friday and crazy busy! Super quick service, fab food, lovely staff and great atmosphere.
Great birthday meal for a party of 7 and great gluten free options.
Friends catch up meal out. My friend's meal of chicken & ham etc was excellent, my seafood risotto was tasty but rice a little overcooked for my taste which spoiled it a little. Starters were excellent (breads, & squid). Have eaten here before and not had a problem. This Zizzi is quite large and as such can be noisy when busy, and eating early rather than later you can have a few young children/babies in the restaurant which can add to the noise! Service was impeccable as always. I will be eating here again. I've also sent a note to the restaurant asking if it's possible to sway to the single use cardboard straws instead of the single use plastic ones :o)
My miso Frito was good but the risotto was the worst I have ever had. Slimy, over cooked, bland and stodgy. Everyone else said theirs was ok, not the best they had eaten. Spent £116 for 4 and didn’t think it was value for money. Won’t be returning
We arrived and drinks were served promptly and order taken quickly. Our starter of bruscetta arrived after 20 minutes. The restaurant was busy at that time so not an issue. However an hour after our starter plates were cleared we were still waiting for our mains (simple pasta dishes). We caught our server's eye and she came across and told us our meals would be with us shortly. Having sat down at 6:40 our main meal finally arrived at 8:10. At my husband's instigation, we did receive a complimentary drink each. The restaurant had quietened down considerably by 7:15. No explanation was given as to why there had been such a long wait. Whilst the food was good and waitress polite, we were very disappointed as this was our first visit in many years to Birmingham.
Nice food .. not amazing. Service was a bit slow and it wasn’t too busy.
Amazing service
It was a good venue for good food and good company. Tiramisu was lovely
My fiancee and I ate in the Mailbox Birmingham branch as a Sat night date night before going to the local bars. Was a perfect intro to the evening, the food was good and reasonably priced. The service was efficient with friendly staff. The atmosphere was good with several parties going on. An all round good dining experience, would recommend to friends and will come back.
My first time at a Zizzi didn't disappoint! Great atmosphere, really nice decor and a good position at the Mailbox.
Really tasty food, friendly staff and a good menu. I'll be returning!
1) at restaurant no reservation received from Open Table
2) waiting one hour for the order to be delivered! We left. They apologised and paid the starter but jeopardise our anniversary!
Get together with a group of friends. Nice location in the Mailbox by the canal side so good for al fresco dining if the weather allows! Plenty of menu choices for one of our party who is vegetarian. Nice, buzzy atmosphere but not too noisy, so you could still hold a conversation. Service was efficient, food was tasty and we all had a lovely experience. Have been here several times before and will return again.
LOVED this restaurant! Great atmosphere, exceptional service, amazing food. We have already told our friends to check it out next time they are in PCB. We had wine, steak, and cheesecake, all of which were fantastic. We can't wait to get back!
We booked the theatre for a xmas prezzi and stopped over. The restaurant was recommended by trip advisor and they weren't wrong. Absolutely beautiful meal. We will definitely go again
Friendly service, nice venue, enjoyed the food. Decent portion sizes for both pizza and pasta.
Great pasta!!!!
Another good meal at Zizzi. Good food, good company and excellent service.
As always, Zizzi was a lovely experience. Great Christmas Menu, great service - even at a very busy time and the food is just awesome. This is a regular Christmas venue for us and we will definitely be returning.
Thanks again..
Service not the best. Ordered desert but was not impressed very stodgy so ordered a replacement which took another 20 mins to arrive by this time thoroughly bored.....
This was a great restaurant for everyone's tastes. The waiters were very friendly and though slow to take our order everything else was very smooth. It was very noisy but my 9 month old daughter managed to sleep through it all. Delicious pizzas.
Hi not enough vegetarian or fish Pizzas Hi not enough vegetarian or fish Pizzas
The food was very good, the waiting staff were friendly and polite. The place itself, however. has no soft furnishings to absorb the noise of diners, so it was noisy. Although I would be happy to eat there again if that was the choice of another, I personally found it too noisy and probably would choose elsewhere.
I would not book via OpenTableagain. The booking did not get to the restaurant. It was only by chance that I telephoned the restaurant two days before to check the booking and I found they had no knowledge of it. Fortunately, they were able to book us in when we wanted.
Went here for a catch up with a friend. We hadn't seen each other in a while so were chatting away and took ages to choose our food but the staff were very patient with us. Food was good, wine was affordable for a city centre venue. Service was excellent, efficient but not obtrusive. have dined here before and will return again in the future.
I'll keep this nice and brief: we had a leaving party for a good friend who is moving to the USA, and we decided to have it at Zizzi. The staff were fantastic - we were not the easiest of groups [what with allergens etc - but also because we were probably not the quietest of groups] but they were brilliant. Particular 'shout out' to the brilliant Portuguese waiter who really made the night for us - not least because our friend who is moving to the USA is also Portuguese!
I'd absolutely recommend this place to anyone.
Our food and service was really good, we were a table of 7, and a bit cramped in the corner.
This is the second time I have booked Zizzi's in the Mailbox for a Ladies Lunch. A group of us visit Birmingham for a Girls weekend every November and this has become our favourite spot for Lunch. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the service was very good. Everybody enjoyed their meals. I had the ravioli with spinach and goats cheese....it was delicious!
The restaurant were unable to find my booking when we arrived, they did eventually squeeze us into a tiny spot. The food took a while to come and was ok.
Had a lovely meal here. Was a Wednesday evening so quiet at first but soon filled up and had a buzzy atmosphere. The 'bucket of bread' to start with turned out to be six small pieces of bread on a board which was enough but a bit overpriced we felt for the amount you got. We both had pasta main courses which were tasty and well cooked. Service was brilliant, the waiter brought over extras without having to be asked, e.g. balsamic vinegar to go with the olive oil, parmesan cheese for the mains and even extra napkins. Overall a pleasant experience and we will return.
As I arrived in Birmingham I booked a table at zizzi for 6pm.
As we got there we got told that there was no booking and the restaurant was fully booked
I think that is awful as we then couldn't have tea anywhere else as we were due to go watch a show at 8pm
So thanks for poor organisation we didn't have a nice experience
Drink order was taken then the waitress left shift over so it too a while for them to arrive. The food order was taken again after quite a long wait only to be told there was no sea bass so had to have chicken. A 20 minute wait and still no sweet had me asking for the bill. The food was good but due to small staffing levels they were to busy which spoilt the evening.
nice restaurant and average food with pleasant service.
