About
A pleasant romantic Valentine's meal. Though tables were densely packed together so it wasn't as intimate as it could be and very noisy. The small tables had nightlight candles on them, which were sweet but looked like a waxy spill hazard and at one table near us napkins caught fire.
Food was good though service was (predictably) slow. Disappointing range of cocktails. Overall a decent experience with some caveats.
Get good value food and good ambience. Staff very busy that night.
Place was very dirty, not particularly busy but very slow to get service
Nice relaxing meal with the family. We were well looked after and we all enjoyed the food.
Good value for money with a good selection on the menu. Portion size was spot on.
We had a pleasant meal at Zizzi. They had no record of my booking despite it being confirmed but it was 17:15 so they had plenty of room for us. My vegan friend was impressed with the vegan menu, and also the kids’ menu. Service was a little slow & my goats cheese salad came with no goats cheese so I had to return it. We got no apology. The food was great, it’s a shame the service let it down.
Very family friendly, & great food.
I am very disappointed that we made an Opentable booking at Zizzis and when we arrived they did not have our booking on the system. This is the second time this has happened. We had friends staying for the weekend and this experience ruined our evening. Do not use this app - make a booking directly with the restaurant.
It was busy and the staff were working hard, but the service was good.
Food was mediocre: "spicy" food had no kick and some of the portions were on the small side (e.g., the Ravioli). Not bad but not great either.
Ambience was fine for a busy place, but I preferred their previous location near the market - that place had character.
A below-average experience. They didn't have our booking from OpenTable. In fact, the people in front of us in the queue also appeared to have not had their booking made either.
Food was decidedly 'OK'. Being Mothers' Day, staff were rushed off their feet so service was not great.
Chairs dirty from previous diners. Table sticky. 'Chocolate Lobster Tail' Special Dessert really quite bad (perhaps this was a frozen product that had been defrosted too quickly).
Waitress was helpful. Overall experience wasn't totally awful - but certainly not something I'd recommend or head back to in a hurry.
Although we booked using Open Table, the restaurant did not have a record of the booking so we had the embarrassment of waiting while a table was allocated. The restaurant greeter informed us that this happens all the time with Open Table bookings.
There were four diners in our party. Three of the starters arrived promptly but one didn’t. We asked twice for it to be chased but it didn’t arrive until after the other three had finished theirs.
We also had a long wait for the main course which resulted in insufficient time to have a desert or coffee as we had theatre tickets.
Oh so slow - went on a TUE early evening and they obviously operated on reduced staff. 2 in the kitchen, 1 for drinks 2 for service. Would say that 2h for 2 courses and almost 25 min before you get a drink is not good enough. Pull your socks up Zizzi, complacency is the start of decline!
Table in the corner was very cold. Service very slow. Main course arrived before drinks. Pizza was good but not hot enough initially. When we finished our main courses, we had to wait for quite a while to clear plates. No one offered dessert or more drinks. In fact, when we asked for a dessert menu, the waitress was surprised. Dessert then took over half an hour to come. We were heading to the cinema so this wasn't ideal. My dessert was tasty but again, not very hot (it was supposed to be). A friend ordered the chocolate brownie and was brought something that looked like a mound covered in chocolate flakes. When she poked her spoon in, there was uncooked brownie mix. They did agree to take it off the bill. Overall very disappointing. I usually think of zizzis as reliable and not too expensive but I won't be back.
Early dinner on a busy pre-Christmas Saturday was okay but nothing spectacular considering the premium prices.
Good food and not too pricey. It was quiet loud as there were to big groups next to our table, the restaurant gave us complimentary prosecco to compensate (we didn't even complain, but they must have noticed it was loud). It was a good experience overall.
The food & service were really good. The waiter was attentive & helpful. My son is autistic & loves cars so we sat at a window overlooking the park & it was just perfect.
But apart from my particular choices & the fact that we only tried one evening meal I would be happy to recommend this restaurant.
The pizzas were excellent and good value. The restaurant appeared short of serving staff when we went, despite being only half full. The waiter was lovely but we had the wrong starter and a VERY long wait for our food. The restaurant was also quite cold. More staff needed.
We went on Mothers Day and took advantage of their special menu. The choices were decent with lots of different meal available. We had 3 courses. The food was tasty, the staff attentive and service was swift but not rushed. All in all a decent experience and we will be going back again.
The location of Zizzis is great and the good is great value, what lets it down sadly on this occasion was the service, though I have to admit it was a Saturday night which may not have helped.
Firstly on arrival despite having booked on Opentable there was no booking available and the staff at the entrance seemed uninterested in us for several minutes. This luckily wasn't a problem as the restaurant wasn't at capacity, but it could have been. A further problem was that generally the waitress didn't seem to be paying attention to our order or particularly quick as other people were served much more quickly. That said the food was reliable and the shared starter of garlic bread with cheese was great. My friend and I both had pasta mains, which were tasty and I finished with their summer sundae. All in all very nice and good value food.
A very good restaurant overall. However waited an eternity for my guests desserts. Whilst they were excellent. Far to long to turn up. One real great point is their allergen menu my wife could have a gluten free pizza which she loved
Although it was a very busy Saturday night in Cambridge and the restaurant very crowded, the service was good. We enjoyed a delicious bowl of pasta with a bottle of red wine. Our table was quite near the back of the restaurant so we had a view of the green spaces of Parker's Piece. Food and wine is reasonably priced so the restaurant is a good family meal option. They have a big pizza oven if that is what you fancy, plus a number of specials (mainly deserts) up on the board. Would definitely eat there again.
Lovely food, super friendly service and good value. However, upon arrival they had no record of our booking for 8 people. At 7.30pm on a Saturday I thought this was going to be a major disaster! I showed the confirmation e-mail from Open Table and the Manager quickly said he would sort it out, which he did. Our waitress was lovely, food was very nice and overall it was good value. I would definitely recommend this place.
The Manager informed us that often the restaurant(s) don't receive confirmations from Open Table, so diners BEWARE, especially if like us you, have a large group. On a Saturday night at peak time, this could potentially ruin your night!
They did not have my opentable reservation but luckily they had a spare, even though it was a busy evening. They said that they were ALWAYS having problems with getting notified about reservations by opentable.
The food was OK but not as good as its Italian competitors. Spagetti bolognese was low on flavour and more tomato than beef.
Decided to try Zizzi's for our Valentine meal. Very impressed. Ordered the mixed starter for 2 which nearly stuffed us before our main course! The Rustica Pizza was outstanding (and huge). Lovely thin crispy base. We can't review the desserts as we were too full to even try one. Overall, great portions and reasonably priced, especially compared to other restaurants in Cambridge.
Good food and good service. I had the chicken and potatoes which was very tasty. The rose wine was lovely too - very sweet! My partner had a spicy pasta dish that was a bit too spicy for him!
Very nice place to have mid-priced lunch in Cambridge - good selection, decent kitchen (can recommend calzones :), quick and polite staff.
When we arrive they didn't have our booking. But told us to come back in 15 mins. We came back and a table for 4 was ready. They also apologized for the mix up and gave us glasses of Possecco. Overall not a bad place.
Really nice staff - very busy and very efficient with lots of people having a good time. Service was fast, food was excellent and portion sizes just right and very tasty. Great desserts - would come again.
Zizzi, being a chain, is a known quantity to an extent, although one I've eaten in in Birmingham was way better, tbh. Food and wine were good, service quite attentive, but the restaurant was noisy, even at half (or less) full, so one had to shout to make oneself heard even across a tiny table. Not for an intimate dinner whispering sweet nothings then, but fine for a quick bite before the theatre.
I booked the set menu for Mother's Day. There was a good selection of food and huge portions. The service was slow, perhaps as it was such a busy day, but pleasant nonetheless. We were sat in a small section to the left of the entrance which I wouldn't recommend - right by the door, a little cut off from the rest of the restaurant and near the station the staff were using to tidy away glasses and cutlery which made it very noisy. Overall a good meal.
Took mum and dad, new style for them but they loved it!
when we arrived they did'nt seem to have our booking but they found us a table without any problems. The food was nice although our main course was waiting so as soon as the starter was taken the main was there immediately and half way through our meal we was asked to move so they could squeeze another table in to accommodate a larger party, however we was given a glass of bubbly each on the house as a thank you.
Got seated then waited 20-30 mins for someone to ask us what we wanted to drink. Then another 20-30 minutes to ask what we were having to eat. Just slammed starter's down without knowing whose was whose so we had been given the wrong order each. My main was not described as hot yet it was very hot and unable to eat it. Our mains were brought out while we were still eating our starter's. Then when the bill I arrived it was given open to my partner, in my case the bill should always be disclosed and given to the man some might disagree with that but its what I believe. I always tip but this time didnt because the night was awful and when the waiter see I didnt tip he made me aware he didnt like it.
We had a gluten free meal orderd .. It took 20 min... Then bread sticks stuck as part of the kapreza salad.... When I asked politely if that's bread the waiter had to go back to the kitchen and find out... main course arrived half an hour later ....with regular gluten RICH pasta...!!
Everyone apologise of course but if we have not asked twice, we could have been really in severe situation if we were allergic to gluten and that shouldn't happen in a restaurant like that.
One has to say that the food was ok, nothing heavenly, it wasn't great but it was good business lunch, if that's what you looking for and if you're not gluten-free then you should be good good to go...
Not sure we are coming back :(
We were late because we went to the wrong Zizi, and they gave our table away, made us wait twenty minutes before saying that they could not seat us. We were two people so they certainly could have squeezed us in. Just incompetent service from people who have emigrated from non-service-oriented countries.
First time at Zizzi's - very impressed! Delightful waiter - complimentary bubbly when I told him it was my Mum's 80th birthday - definitely go back.
You always know what to expect at a Zizzi Restaurant - quality food, good atmosphere and reasonably good value for money. This one was no exception. Would definitely go again when in the area. Recommend.
Busy but not full on a Satrurday evening. Diavolo pizza was quite hot -beware! Waitress was charming. This Zizzi was altogether better than some other Zizzis we have visited.
Good food, nice atmosphere, and friendly service. Good for families and people with children.
This branch is situated at the less glamorous end of the center of Cambridge but has nice views at the back of a large playing field. We had a lovely waiter and the food was very fresh and tasty. A cross between Pizza Express and Carluccios, and very good value.
Party of 4 on Thursday before Easter and very busy with large parties so service for pizzas slow, but staff kept us informed. Food quality VG esp. vegetarian options.
