About Zizzi - Colchester
Italian restaurant chain Zizzi opened the doors of its very first branch in London's Chiswick in 1999. Now there are over 100 branches, all decorated in an appealing contemporary style. Wood-fired ovens, open kitchens and modern interior design with locally influenced art features make for a vibrant atmosphere. As for the food, they serve up a variety of traditional Italian dishes including all the usual suspects: salads, antipasti, pasta, pizza, calzone, risotto as well as fish and meat mains and desserts. What Zizzi really pride themselves on is sourcing good quality ingredients; salads are dressed with white balsamic vinegar from Modena, for example, and offer Goddess Olives, a variety known for their firm flesh and nutty flavour. The modestly priced wine list is dominated by Italian wines, starting at £13.45 for a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Colchester's Zizzi a great location on the high street, and is based in a beautifully renovated historic building.

Zizzi - Colchester Ratings and Reviews
Great menu selection, vibrant atmosphere. We were seated quickly and were offered a drink. The waitress was very patient with us as we kept talking and not ordering! All in all though, when the food arrived it was hot, good quality and tasted very good. Nice evening, busy place and table quite close together, but all in all we had fun and would return, for an informal catch up and get together.
Restaurant was full at it was Whitstable Oyster festival. Good friendly service. Used voucher which made it an excellent deal - £65 for a family of five including alcohol. Great pizzas, lovely pasta and risotto. Sauvignon wine great value for New Zealand at £4.65 a glass. Downside - we were a bit squashed in at our table as we were sitting in a thoroughfare and people were finding it hard to get by which was a bit annoying.
A very pleasant evening with relaxed service, food was very tasty although was offered garlic bread before having the three course valentines meal which also came with a mixture of antipasti.. by the time we got through eating all that bread we were both full and struggled to eat our mains... Great if you have a big appetite.
Over all enjoyed and will definitely book again.
Zizzi is always very enjoyable and with the special offer deal, is amazing. It's a great set menu my favourite Zizzi courses were on it. I pointed out we were actually there on a Friday but they let us have it, anyway. I left feeling ill with over-eating. Service was slow, but SO charming!
We went to Zizzi, Colchester and had a fab night. So we got there and it was busy but within a min we were sat at our table. There was a lovely atmosphere, busy but not too much. We went on the toptable offer 2 mains and a bottle of wine for £20. We ordered 2 pizzas for our main and they even dealt with my husbands "fussiness" and removed things from his pizza that he did not like without question. The pizzas were great, we were not rushed(despite only spending £20) and we had a lovely evening
Very disappointed with this visit. Definitely not the place to take the wife on a date night. My starter (calimari) was very bland and over cooked. Main meal was a lot better. Very busy and still had to wait despite booking a table. On the plus side the waiter was very freindly. Don't think I would go again.
I booked a table via the opentable website but was informed I should have called the restaurant to reserve a table when we arrived. We were seated on the mezzanine level with after some talk amongst the staff.
The waitress was very efficient and friendly. The have a very good Sauvignon Blanc on but that was the highlight of the meal for me.
Food and value for money was worth the trip but the waiting staff were miserable, not a single one of them were smiling. They try to attract people to go there before going to the theater which is why we went (and made them aware) but the service was incredibly slow.
Food was "ok" and that's all I can say on the food!! Myself and my party asked if we could be moved as we were sat on top of the door and we were cold with the door being opens with people in and out, we were told no as they were fully booked fair enough we thought but 10 mins later 3 tables left and not refilled, would of been nice to have been offered one of these tables but NO so we sat freezing all evening, poor waitress service in general too, won't be visiting again
The service was pretty bad..everything was just put here, dumped there, including ourselves. She placed us at a table underneath a leaking roof!...which leaked all over my girlfriend, when I asked for us to move, the waitress said "yeah but just watch the bottles of olive oil though"...no apology, no assistance, nothing. We had a starter of sharing cheesy garlic bread and were given no plates so the crumbs went everywhere - when we finished they brought the main courses and dumped the plates on our table before collecting the starters first, dropping some of the leftovers into my main meal in the process.
The main courses were very poor. Sauces like water, pasta under cooked.
