Zizzi - Derby
I would have loved to write a review but unfortunately our booking with open table was not honoured and we were told they were fully booked on that evening.
An early Saturday Evening booking for 2 elderly parents and I was unusually something of a let-down. Initially being told that 'Toptable Bookings don't always get to us' we were taken to into the bowels and sat next to a party of more than 20 'twenty-somethings' directly under an air-conditioning vent which meant not only were we in the noisiest part, but also the coldest!
Starters were standard - Anti-pasti/olives. The mains varied in quality with 1 of 2 pasta dishes being utterly tasteless. My own 'hottest pizza on the menu' was had minimal topping with pepperoni clearly suffering from extreme rationing - and even pouring on so called 'chilli-oil' and tonnes of back pepper it did nothing. Service was variable and I wouldn't return.
It's a Zizzi. I've always been a fan of Zizzi, and this one was no exception. In the restaurant-heavy area of Derby, it had a fairly romantic air, with friendly staff, and a good pizza to finish off the evening.
Lovely food, really excellent staff = nice evening. Thank you.
Food was good. Service was polite. Nothing amazing, but good value.
The hostess was extremely rude which gave us a bad impression from the start. However, our waitress was a good sport. Food quite expensive for what it was re portion size.
Zizzi's on Friar Gate, Derby ... The meal itself was good. I think the service could have been a bit better but those who did serve us were really nice and attentative.
Zizzi in the centre of Derby's restaurant area met up to all expectations. Excellent service, a great atmosphere, a good menu and quality, great value food and wine. The Rustica Pizzas are superb though now seem to be lacking in spice / heat, which is a shame. Olive and bread platters are great value and the house-wines were truly superb value. A great start to a wonderful evening. Would definitely recommend.
We went witha group of 8 and beside the somewhat lagging table service times (busy Friday evening) Zizzi once again managed to deliver - great foods all around and superb portions (aside from risottos). The ambience inside is catering both for romantic couples and work outings, staying neutral while still having a character of its own, brillian venue by Derby standards.
We went to the Shalimar last night for dinner and it was one of the most fantastic dining experiences we have ever had. The service was second to none and they even suggested sauces for our mains, and let us try it to see if we liked it before serving the dishes. The food was beautiful even down to the pickle tray for a starter. I would definitely recommend this to any local and passing trade alike.
Zizzi in Derby exceeds in what is normally excpected from national chains in small towns. The interior is beautiful and atmospheric and the food was lovely. Only downsides were the not-so-liberal Risotto portion sizes and rather lagging service, which could be due to the volume of customers. Overall a positive experience.
Zizzi in Derby is a fine epitome of how a chain-belonging restaurant can be marvellously chic and provide very high quality food. My seafood pasta was good, maybe lacking a little punch, but that's the subtleness of seafood. We also had a half-and-half Rustica pizza which was not only varied and delicious but huge! The interior it the best part, with young talent's murals on the walls, tastefully placed pasta jars here and there, spacious table outset and laid back yet-romantic atmosphere.
My first visit to Zizzi in Derby was on the whole a positive one. The food was exactly up to standard I expect from a Zizzi restaurant and the staff were helpful and polite. I must admit I hope the decor is not going across the board to all their restaurants as it looks and feels more like French butcher's than the old earthy and cosy Zizzi I got so accustomed to.
Really great food, good value, especially with 25% off. Very tasty food and outstanding service.
Zizzi never fail to deliver on good and service and this was no exception
Zizzi Derby - atmosphere was good for a Monday evening, but service disappointingly slow and starters were cold. I've had much better meals at Zizzis but this one was a bit of a flop!
Another night, another Zizzi's and this time in Derby. To my surprise the decor was looking very tired, with paint peeling off the wall heading up the stairs to the bathroom, a general lack of art on the walls compared to other branches which didn't help with the restaurant being cold to the point I wore my jacket through dinner.
The food was good as is normally the case with Zizzi though the serving staff seemed a little chaotic and rather resembled the Michel Roux’s Service trainees.
We ate at Zizzi in Derby yesterday and had a great time. The food was very
good and the staff were very friendly. We would definitely go back again!
