We are an independent Kitchen & Tap House located in the heart of Southsea. Our name derives from Thomas Croxton, who built the first houses in the area around 1809. The area subsequently became known as Croxton Town, but in 1857 the town’s name was changed to Southsea, after King Henry’s Southsea Castle.Located in the old Southsea Post Office we offer craft beer, cocktails, wine and spirits, along with award winning food inspired by our travels from around the world.     The Dancing Prawns were divine, flavoured to perfection with just the right balance of crunch and juicy succulence. The crab fettuccini was a feast for the eyes as well as the palette and the finale was the chef’s twist on crème brûlée.

    Sunday lunch for five and the weather was good enough to sit outside in the garden and enjoy the views of the Solent and Isle of Wight. The food was lovely and well presented. My husband and youngest son enjoyed a dirty burger and chicken burger respectively, my middle son and his wife enjoyed a selection of small plates and I enjoyed a beetroot and onion tart. My only gripe was that mine wasn’t overly filling but it was absolutely delicious. Our server was polite, attentive and an absolute delight and we weren’t hurried in any way. We have dined/drank at the Alverbank a few times over the years and it never disappoints. We will definitely be returning. Thank you.
