From the OpenTable editors: An arched wooden door reveals a beautifully distressed Middle Eastern restaurant, centred on a snapping live fire grill with special clay ovens. Gather around family-style feasts filled with flatbread and dips, hearth-roasted whole cauliflower, and seven-spice lamb shoulder. Food & Wine and Bon Appétit both named Maydan one of the best new restaurants of 2018, the wine programme was a James Beard Nominee, and the MICHELIN Guide can’t get over the cardamom rice pudding.

My party had shellfish allergy - was asked about at the restaurant by the waiter who then forgot about the allergy and kept recommending shellfish items. Food was decent but I’ve had much better in DC for better price. Overall, won’t be back.

After going on a bear hunt to find parking and then the location it was wonderful! Maydān is “a hidden gem” and customer service is on point. The food! Wow! I ordered a little bit of everything but my favorites were grilled oyster mushrooms & Masgouf! OMG! I’ve never tasted such amazing flavors explode in my mouth. Everything was delicious including the complimentary hot tea (mint, gun powder green tea etc). Thank you for making this experience worth the trip.

Overall just on OK experience. I hadn't been here in a few years and remember it being pretty good, so I was excited to have snagged a Saturday night res (which is hard to do bc apparently people love this place), though I don't think I'll come back. To start with I had an early res which I preferred but apparently the only table for two that was available was one upstairs tucked away in the corner with an awkward seating configuration; I declined that table and we had to opt for one of the downstairs tables, which was fine. For the food, we got the standard spicy red pepper hummus which was good, but I'll say that the carrot (huvac?) was pretty disappointing - we both agreed it lacked flavor. The dates were nice and the serving size was definitely fair but the halloumi we found to be small and incredibly over-seasonsed for our taste, so much so that it felt like I was just eating sesame seeds and whatever else they coated it in. Lastly for food we ordered the brown butter sweet potato which was pretty good and the chicken kabobs - here, fair taste but a very small portion without rice or much veggies to supplement the 'entree', so I'm glad we ordered two. For drinks, my cocktail (Date Night) was alright, but my girlfriend's pours of wine were very wimpy to say the least. I never care to write reviews but I felt like I should for this place simply because it's incredibly overhyped from what I can tell. I'll also mention that eating outside in the alley seems silly as there's no ambiance at all, and when we were leaving we noticed a rat run right by where people were sitting - not Maydan's fault, but imagine seeing that when you're trying to enjoy a meal. So overall I'd say a 3/5. Fair, but IMO a bit overhyped. Thanks.

I will start my saying the ambiance, service, and food were top notch. My only disappointment was that when I made the reservation there was no information letting me know that parties of 6 or more were required to have the fixed priced dinner. I had been to Maydan once before with one other person so we ordered directly off the menu. Perfect amount of food and not too expensive. However, when we sat down and were told that we were required to have the fixed price meal I was a bit embarrassed since I had suggested going here with my friends. It was WAY more than I would have ever asked them to pay. I definitely walked away from that meal feeling badly and ended up apologizing to my friends. Fortunately they were able to afford it but that was never the point. I think this should be made clear or not a requirement and not to mention it was way too much food. We took home more than half the food. Something to consider for other patrons.

Marvelous flavors from first sips to last bites. Seated upstairs, our table felt intimate and comfortable. The Tawle menu was the best choice for us both, as first timers, and as special occasion diners. Service was exceptional: warm, kind and knowledgeable. In the Pom of Your Hand cocktail was especially lovely.
