I came to this place because of the great reviews and the fact that it serves Peking duck. The duck resembled more a duck confit, believe me, I have had my share of Peking duck in many, many cities, Beijing included. The steamed rice was soggy and the attitude of the waitresses was terrible.

We ordered and shared 4 dishes which were all quite different and the result was wonderful. We even shared a bottle of lovely Italian white which was perfect.

Real Chinese cuisine in a simple restaurant: the duck was excellent as were the sweet and sour chicken and the black bean beef. Friendly service

Delicious and authentic Shanghai/Jiangnan food, which there isn't that much of in London. Xiao longbao were the highlight for me.

FAQs

Portions are typical of casual Chinese dining and designed for sharing, expect a mix of small plates (dim sum/appetizers), medium mains, and larger hot pots that serve multiple people. Some guests noted smaller pieces in deep-fried dishes, while hot pots and family-style items (Happy Family Hot Pot) explicitly list serves for 2–3 or 5–6.

Yes, but for a casual, food-focused date rather than a romantic, candlelit experience. Guests praise the authentic Shanghai/Jiangnan dishes (notably soup dumplings and noodles) and friendly service, so it’s great if you and your date care about flavour and discovery. The space is casual and clean, so consider an earlier evening booking for a quieter table in Holborn/Bloomsbury.

The atmosphere is casual and no-frills, focused on authentic Shanghai flavours rather than fine-dining decor. Guests describe a simple, clean space with friendly staff; some found service inconsistent but food reliably authentic. It’s a relaxed spot for those prioritising taste and traditional dishes over mood lighting or high-end ambience.

Business casual is the stated dress code. Given the restaurant’s casual dining style and friendly atmosphere, smart casual or business casual is appropriate, you don’t need formal attire but dressing neatly fits the setting.

Yes, guests frequently bring families, teens and celebrate birthdays here. The menu is broad with many shareable dishes (dim sum, noodles, rice dishes) that suit kids and teens. There’s no dedicated children’s menu listed, so for young children consider an earlier seating or ask staff about simplifying dishes.

There’s no single ‘best day’ listed, but midweek visits (Tuesday–Thursday) are typically quieter than weekend evenings, which can be busier. If you want a more relaxed table and quicker service, aim for a weekday lunch or early evening and book ahead when possible.

Family-friendly: yes, guests report families and birthday groups dining here, and the menu includes plenty of shareable dishes that suit groups. Accessibility details aren’t provided publicly, so if you need step-free access or other accommodations, call ahead. The space is described as clean and simply set up, with casual seating rather than formal private rooms.

The restaurant’s stated hours are Daily 11:00–22:00, which suggests it operates every day. For specific public holiday openings or amended hours, it’s best to call ahead as exceptions or reduced hours sometimes apply.

Busiest: typical peak dinner hours and likely weekends, some guests experienced waits. Quietest: weekday lunchtimes or earlier weekday evenings tend to be calmer. Because the restaurant covers lunch and dinner daily, choosing an off-peak time will improve your chance of a relaxed meal.
